Would you legalize the following activities.?

273>If you had the power to legalize something would you

Weed- For both recreational and medical, Should I be allowed to grow a plant in my back yard, or to by it at a market to help with my cancer treatment.

All Medicine OTC- Should I be allowed to get Anti-Depressants without a prescription if theres nothing in my system that could have an adverse reaction with it

Prostitution- Should I be allowed to take the money I earn to a brothel and purchase a service from a consenting adult. In this situation the Brothels have a govt grading system like restaurants, the employees are regally tested, on birth control and customers must submit proof of no STDs, ect

18 year old Drinking age- I can Go to war, I can vote, I can Smoke, I can get married, I can appear in adult videos, I can live on my own...

Seatbelt laws- Should I be allowed to drive without a seatbelt, provided all minors with me are buckled up and safe,
Reply:Hummmmmmmm

Weed - yes, because there isn%26#039;t any stopping it, it is grown all over, and easier to get than any other thing.

All Medicine OTC - absolutely not, we have enough Rx junkies, we don%26#039;t need any more.

Prostitution - No - I think it encourages unfaithfulness, and even though they would be tested, HIV can not show up for years.

18 year old Drinking - quite frankly if they want it they will get it somewhere, I don%26#039;t like the fact that some can drink at 21. Because so many are just not mature enough to handle the alcohol - look at Lane Garrison, actor, 27, killed a 17 year old student, and had two 15 year old girls with him - he apparently was not very mature.

Seat belt laws - YES you should always wear a seat belt, they have proven to save lives. If you want to die, just do so on your own, elsewhere.
Reply:Weed and medicine should be legal

Prostitution should stay illegal

Drinking age limit should not exist

Seatbelt laws should remain as strong recommendations to wear them, but not with legal punishments.
Reply:Weed-no under any circumstances.

OTC medicine-never. Too many are addictive. You need 10 years of medical training to give them out.

Prostitution-never. Our sexual morality and lack of it is a big problem. It sets the wrong example for kids.

I agree on 18 for drinking.

Seatbelt-I am fine with repealing as long as your insurance company can deny any claim completely if you were not wearing a seatbelt.
Reply:no, no, no, yes, and no
Reply:everything but the seat belts
Reply:yes
Reply:I would legalize and regulate Prostitution

I would make 18 the drinking age for beer and wine but not for hard liquor.
Reply:Weed - yes ... Prohibition has never worked anyway ... chemical dependency should be treated socially, not criminally ... not to mention, the medicinal value of this plant outweighs the social sigma it carries

All Medicine OTC - No ... IMHO there are no magic pills, seek answers within ;)

Prostitution - yes ... its just a dumb law, if someone wants to sell themselves I think they should be able to ... criminalizing it only speaks to how juvenile and sexually repressed we are in the US

18 year old Drinking age - No way ... sorry man, if you join the military they will let you drink at 18 ... otherwise, don%26#039;t drink and drive, 18 is too young to understand that

Seat belt laws - No ... its a small price to pay because people are too stupid to do it for themselves ... I would agree that there is no reason to legislate a law like this, but I would also put it in the %26#039;no harm - no foul%26#039; category
Reply:i%26#039;m with you on the first three, then it gets tricky.

no drinking at eighteen. we tried it once, the traffic deaths skyrocketed.

seatbelts must be mandatory equipment, it%26#039;s that simple. i don%26#039;t want to pay your lifetime medical bills after the insurance runs out. you want to kill yourself, that%26#039;s your business, but why make the rest of us pay for your disabilities when they could have been avoided?
Reply:You are basically asking two kinds of questions. First, should any of these behaviors be legalized which means it%26#039;s must be regulated and, more than likely, taxed.

Second, should any of these behaviors be decriminalized which means the government doesn%26#039;t promote and encourage such behavior but will not take criminal action against those who engage in them.

So the %26quot;victimless%26quot; activities such as weed should be decriminalized.

Activities such as prostitution should be legalized if only to protect the parties involved and to ensure a certain level of %26quot;quality%26quot; as they do in the brothels in Nevada (sans Reno and Las Vegas).

Seatbelt laws have a compelling state interest to remain a legal requirement since there is overwhelming evidence that its use saves lives and the state has an interest in doing so (not to mention having to foot the bill if the injured victim doesn%26#039;t have health insurance).

All medicine OTC assumes that doctors are not necessary in determining the efficacy, contraindications, etc., of drugs. I continue to believe they are important as %26quot;gatekeepers.%26quot;
