I am a lesbian in a relationship with a woman going thru the initial of menoapause. How can I help her?

276>Her libido is nil which frustrates her. Hormone drugs are now not suggested due to cancer causing side effects. She%26#039;s been prescibed a low dose anti-depressant but I hate the chemical aspect of it all. How can I help??!!
Reply:peri-menopause is a frustrating thing to go through. I went through a bout of depression, panic attacks and loss of libido myself, and didn%26#039;t know why until I read an article about it, later. I thought I was losing my mind. Then I read that sometimes your mind gets so confused that a thing you knew well one day could be like Greek the next, and I went thru that, also, not being able to understand what something was when I KNEW I knew it. I took Zanex for a year, and then I was over the worst of it, only I just took it when I felt the need for it, as in the beginning of a panic attack, and then only half a tab, as I was terrified of becoming addicted to something. But when I knew what caused my symptoms, it wasn%26#039;t nearly as scary.

I know the chemical thing is scary, but it really does help for the short term. And these symptoms don%26#039;t last forever, they really don%26#039;t.

I found that eating right, taking a good regimen of vitamins, and lots of exercise really helped.

I still get hot flashes, seems like they never go away, lol!

Good luck, give her lots of love and understanding, and blessed be!
Reply:Menopause is terrible. I stopped taking Premarin after I realized the terrible abuse horses endure just to provide this drug. I did a quick google search and found some things that I think I will also investigate further.

FDA has approved prescription drugs besides estrogen to prevent and treat osteoporosis. They include:

Miacalcin: a nasal spray that contains the hormone calcitonin

Fosamax :a drug without hormones

Evista: a drug that acts like estrogen in preventing osteoporosis but does not have some of the other good and bad effects of estrogen.

Also tell her to dress in layers. Sometimes when I am in a room and the heat comes on it will trigger a hot flash. I have redirected my heating vents so that they do not blow on me directly. Also cutting back on carbs will help but that is easier said than done. There are some OTC herbal treatments but I have never used them.

It will take her a while to get used to the whole idea of menopause. Try not to make a big deal of it. The more a person worries over a thing like this the worse it will get. Hang in there.
Reply:This is something I started thinking about also.

I don%26#039;t want to have to take drugs.

Nice brisk or at least long walks is good.

Getting the right vitamins and nutrition is very important.

I been googling, but haven%26#039;t found what I%26#039;m looking for.

Guess I%26#039;ll have to see my doctor for advise soon.

Reply:That is very sad that you are in this relationship and have no clue what to do with your partner!!!

Take the drugs away and guess what!!!!!!!
Reply:I think you will just have to try and support her as time goes along. I was just thinking how lucky she is to have someone like you to help her. Not saying anything bad about men mind you but, they just dont understand like the ladies do that have been through this time and knows how it feels. Good Luck to you and your friend.
Reply:Dear Tbird,

Try an herbal estrogen [Phytoestrogens http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phytoestrog... ] Chemically these are close enough to human estrogen%26#039;s to be of value in cases like this but are largely an herbal. So they can be purchased in any vitamin or herbal shop.[Even K-mart has them in stock.] and without a prescription. You can even get them as a tea if you like.

The dosages are VARY low but the pills or teas are vary effective in combating the symptoms of menopause.

Estroven http://www.vitacost.com/AmerifitNutritio... is the best known of these products but the fact is there are several brands avalible.

Reply:Dump her and get a new gal. There are plenty of new lesbians who are not in this shape and ones who are not on drugs.

I just dumped my ole girlfriend, and I got a new one within 3 days.

My point is that I want a healthy realationship and a happy one also. Not one with a person who is sick like that.
