Tx. Gov. Rick Perry & HPV Immunization for Females 9-21 years?

504>What do you think about Texas Governor Rick Perry mandating this immunization for little girls and women? HPV is the Human Papilloma Virus, which causes vaginal warts %26amp; can sometimes lead to cervical cancer. Gov. Perry is the US%26#039; first governor to mandate this shot. The Texas Legislature cannot overthrow his decision. This is based on the presumption that girls absolutely will have unprotected, premarital sex. The shot has had very little safety testing on it. Personally, I believe it is one step away from forced sterilization, since the GOP is anti-abortion. There are news links on this at Yahoo. Please tell us what you think about this.
Reply:There are two sides to every discussion, of course. This vaccine does appear to confer some benefits. If I were a sexually active woman who disliked condoms and liked to have multiple sex partners who had not yet been exposed to any of the four strains of HPV that this vaccine protects against, I just might sign myself up.

But that%26#039;s not the same thing as making this vaccine MANDATORY for a preteen population it was not rigorously tested on a scant 8 months after its initial rush job FDA approval.

Aside from all the known risks of all vaccines, the unknown risks of this three shot regimen for preteens along with their other vaccine load, and the unknown long term risks of this vaccine for all populations, we have to look at cost vs. benefit.

7861 of the placebo subjects contracted 83 cases of HPV 6-, 11-, 16-, 18-related dysplasias during the testing period compared compared to 4 cases among the 7858 subjects who were given GARDASIL. That%26#039;s after counting out every subject with any prior exposure to these strains. This includes 42 of the less serious HPV 6-, 11- related low grade dysplasias.

Merck has published no data for how many non-HPV 6-, 11-, 16-, 18-related dysplasias were contracted by these subjects over these periods, but some practitioners have commented that they expect the vaccine to protect against 40%-50% of all dysplasias.

In terms of every possible kind of dysplasia for which this vaccine confers protection, Merck%26#039;s own clinical evidence suggests that this vaccine saved about 10 patients out of each 1000 injected from the painful process of having these dysplasias treated (over the entire course of follow ups which ranged from 18 months to 4 years). Note that the populations for these studies were not preteens but women at the height of their sexual activity. Further note that since the vaccine uses virus-like particles (a new vaccine technology) and is only about five years in testing now, there is no guarantee that it has any long term efficacy.

Of course, the pre-teen population is so less sexually active (and when active, so much less likely to be active with a previously contaminated partner) that I think it would be conservative to estimate that preteens are 5 times less likely to contract HPV dysplasias than the 16 to 26 year olds who were tested by Merck. So instead of saving 10 women per 1000 from painful treatments for HPV dysplasias, this vaccine would save perhaps 2 girls per 1000 from these procedures among the much younger population that Merck and Merck%26#039;s politicians are targeting for mandatory vaccination.

Do we really want to pursue a public policy that costs $360,000 to vaccinate every 1000 girls while exposing each and every one of these thousand girls to the known adverse short term and largely unknown long terms side effects of three injections of a new vaccine just to save two of the more sexually active of these kids from having to have their dysplasias treated conventionally? What kind of a risk and cost vs. benefit trade off is that?

Note that nowhere are we discussing actual incidences of cervical cancer because there is no clinical evidence whatsoever that GARDASIL reduces cervical cancer rates, and even if we place our hope in the the fact that it might, cervical cancer is simply not a meaningful health risk for any girl in the target vaccination population who is getting an annual pap smear.
Reply:This is based on the presumption that girls absolutely will have unprotected, premarital sex

^ That line is bullshit.

Anyway, forced vaccination like that is definitely wrong, I don%26#039;t have much to say apart from that, except just try to force one on me or anyone I know. I can%26#039;t believe things like this are actually still happening these days.
Reply:That decision presumes nothing whatsoever about any girl or woman. It is nothing more than a public health issue. And how can you or anyone else in their right minds possibly compare this to forced sterilization. It does nothing to prevent future pregnancies. It does a whole lot (not everything, but a whole lot) to prevent future cervical cancer.

Further, ultimately, the state (not Texas specifically but the state in general) is the ultimate guardian of every child residing in that state. As such, it is the ONLY RESPONSIBLE DECISION TO MAKE.

Get your facts straight. It%26#039;s easy to do and it%26#039;s far better than making a public fool of yourself, as you have here.
Reply:My children were given the required immunizations when young. Neither got the chicken pox vaccine because they both had caught the chicken pox before it came out.

As a woman I am proud that medical studies are being conducted and help is out there for young woman. That being said, I am against the requirement of this immunization. Not because I do not believe children this young are having sex, I teach middle school and see it every day. I am against it because it is too early in development to require all young women to get it.

I will never forget a college professor that I had for psychology class. He had previously worked for a pharmaceutical company. He told us that if we learned nothing else in that class that semester, we needed to know to never take a new medication until it had been on the market for 7 years minimum. Has this one even been on the market for 7 months?
Reply:First of all this has nothing to do with pregnancy.......if insurance or the state will cover it for the uninsured why not get it? Children are required to get immunized for Hepatitis, Chicken Pox, Measles and Mumps and a few others.....Now a days it is very likely that a child 12 or 13 will have sex, sexually abused or raped....this can protect them......most girls don%26#039;t get pap smears until they are in their later teens and if they have been sexually active for a few years HPV can progress, if it is caught in time they will have to have their uterus scraped to remove....probably not fun.....there are always people who want to buck the system just for the sake of it...I mean really what can this harm???? I cannot fathom why anyone would refuse their children immunizations....never any problems with any of my kids getting all their shots.

Is it a bad idea if you hear out what real Iranians have to say rather than hear what they say on the news?

503>I think reading this in 5-7 minutes would be better than listening to the news in a lifteime.Plz don%26#039;t think I%26#039;m a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope.

My question is: what percentage of what I say is acceptable to you?

This article has three parts: 1.Cultural and general info 2.music and 3.political, so plz read it from the top to the bottom.

Hi.I%26#039;m Iranian and I live in Iran. When I chat with people from other countries, I understand that they have totally wrong ideas about Iran.I just wrote this article to correct you.

The first thing they accuse our government of, is that they don%26#039;t let you be free.Actually, Iranians would be some of the most liberal people in the world (liberal meaning not obeying laws that they don%26#039;t like).Thousands of millions of strict rules in other countries, don%26#039;t even exist in Iran. Also, you should understand that what may seem so normal to you, may be a nightmare for us and vise versa.That%26#039;s why you don%26#039;t understand a few of Iran%26#039;s laws.In Iran every single house has a sattelite. Sattelite channels had a serious influence on people, they wear very fashionable clothes.Maybe it%26#039;s a kind of immitation, but still it%26#039;s got an unique Iranian style. People wear fashionable scarves to make themselves more attractive and most part of their hair is out, also it%26#039;s a part of our culture.Iran is one of the super-consumers of cosmics! People do whatever they wish to and some of the things they do, don%26#039;t fit our culture at all, however it%26#039;s normal in Iran. You really need to pay a visit to Iran and you%26#039;ll be surprised seeing the difference between what you imagined before and how the real Iran is! It%26#039;s wonderful. The Iran you know, is related to at least 30 years ago.At present, everything%26#039;s so great if you don%26#039;t take unemployment and air pollution into account. So many things have changed so far.I can%26#039;t even compare Iran with 5 years ago, let alone comparing it with 30 years ago!!!! After all, nearly 65-70% of Iran%26#039;s population is considered the new generation (The youth) and they%26#039;ve transformed everything.

Some people think women don%26#039;t have any rights in Iran! What would you tell me if I tell you that women are now overtaking Iran? They%26#039;re treated very well, most of the times they%26#039;re the winners in most cases: They get into the best universities. They get the best jobs.They%26#039;ve got rights that have made it difficult for men to marry them, because husbands buy them expensive things and treat them very well, otherwise women will have the right to ask them a great amount of money which most husbands cannot afford. (so, they can simply sit in the corner of prison! lol). The only thing that women are not allowed to do in Iran is getting into public football stadiums and that%26#039;s just because IN IRAN, such places are usually full of cheeky guys who would cheek girls.I don%26#039;t think girls would go there, even if they%26#039;re allowed to do so.As far as I know, not many girls in Iran are interested in football!

Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourself they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was once ruled by those freaks (Taliban).I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and that we%26#039;re Persian and some Turkish not Arab! And I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world.There%26#039;s nothing mysterious about it!(The media is very good at making scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I%26#039;m sure you don%26#039;t know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don%26#039;t hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. A small example is this 17 year old boy who%26#039;s invented 72 amazing inventions. You don%26#039;t know that Iranian students and sportsmen are winning gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, sports, anything! Why don%26#039;t the media talk about them?Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran

A few weeks ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and now it%26#039;s signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What I found instead? %26quot;President Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!%26quot; The media are injustice.They%26#039;d put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they would never talk about facts! Some interesting facts:

Iran is the pionier in medicine and genetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. One of the best designer of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian.Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams. The 4th highest tower (Milad tower) in the world is in Tehran (which you can visit in the second link). The champion weight-lifter is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians. And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug and Persian literature, many Persian poets and scientists that are so famous.Persian culture is now westernised and only a little has survived! According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners with Dollars of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different: one Dollar=about 950 Tomans!) Who do you think is building Dubi?Arabs? No my friends, Iranian architectures, engineers and traders funding them, cos they don%26#039;t think building the same things in Iran would be beneficial for them, Since the media scare tourists away from Iran. There are many other things. And also, Iran is a very independant country. It has nearly all the developed industries and technologies and doesn%26#039;t need other countries to survive! That%26#039;s why the unfair U.N sanctions don%26#039;t bother us! The list is endless.

Some charactristics of Iranians would be: Proud, greedy, hard-working, intelligent, ambitious, not realistic, not so religious, not so generous, not punctual, impatient, well-dressed, formal, well-educated, warm and friendly and hospitable.

Some people think, Iran%26#039;s a desert! Iran%26#039;s a modern country with very beautiful nature and lots of historical places to visit. Please take a look at the following links and see if Iran looks like what you think or not! (Surely it doesn%26#039;t!)

Some people think music is forbidden in Iran.Did you know that Iranian pop music has won the prize in France in 2005? All Iranian songs are current pop /Trance/ DJ music.I send them to my American and Canadian chat friends and they all admit that it%26#039;s the best music they%26#039;ve ever heard. They specially love the beat.

It%26#039;s now 2007 and people still think we are uneducated people living in deserts, riding camels and carrying around guns!!!!

See how the media are fooling people? None of the things you hear on the media about Iran are true.If you think I%26#039;ve been admiring Iran too much, that%26#039;s because you%26#039;d do the same thing if you were looked down nearly everyday for some false reasons.

I think it%26#039;s better to clarify some political issues as well:

Some of the Americans I chatted with, said in the U.S it%26#039;s said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! The media are good at putting comments.It%26#039;s easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don%26#039;t get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about things that have got nothing to do with us.For example does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. like picking up some specific sensitive phrases from among a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and putting so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it serious.

First of all, Iranians don%26#039;t hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it%26#039;s not bad.Is it? We hate neither Jews nor Americans.They%26#039;re both nice people. If their media are fooling them, it%26#039;s not their fault. If I were in their shoes, I would hate Iran too regarding all the terrible lies they keep hearing about it nearly everyday.Although ordinary Iranians don%26#039;t care about world affairs, I%26#039;ve got to say that for us Israel is not equal to Jews! Israel is a govt.Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of Iranians. No difference. And two of Iran%26#039;s parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force the others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?That%26#039;s so funny. Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing. It means that where you come from and what your religion is, are not important to us at all.And I wonder why some Muslem countries think there%26#039;s a problem between Shiites and Sunnies. It doesn%26#039;t make sense in Iran.

I wonder Iran is a threat to whom? Which logical rule admits that it%26#039;s logical to say a country is guilty because we THINK / PREDICT that she%26#039;s going to do something wrong?!!!! Has Iran ever attacked any countries?There%26#039;s no proof on that.That%26#039;s even what nuclear agency says.Only Iran%26#039;s oppositions are pulling Iran%26#039;s leg. What we%26#039;re doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.Iran is a peaceful country. Why? It%26#039;s the regional super-power and if she wanted, she could invade the countries in our neibourhood just as what Seddam did to our country, but as you see Iran has peaceful relationships with all of them.It could be a good example to some countries that just follow their interests. What is interesting is that the countries which accuse Iran of different things have been, and are still accused of the same things!!! This could be a modern and innovative form of philosophy and logic!

Some say he said: Israel should be wiped off the map! But have they told you the rest of his speech and that why he%26#039;s said this at all? If you know a little literature, you know that it%26#039;s a passive sentence.He%26#039;s never said that IRAN wants to wipe Israel off the map! And he wasn%26#039;t talking about destroying Israel. He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they both could live in peace.They%26#039;ve only told you this phrase not the rest of it and it%26#039;s mistranslated deliberitely.Iran%26#039;s always defended itself, but it%26#039;s not an offensive country. While some countries which have nukes are clearly threatening Iran to nuke her! Good, isn%26#039;t it?

Some say he%26#039;s said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that%26#039;s so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren%26#039;t important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it%26#039;s not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran%26#039;s 69000000 population within two weeks, it%26#039;s OK and no one says they%26#039;re threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima %26amp; Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you%26#039;d get the point why he%26#039;s IRONICALLY said it%26#039;s a mith. Moreover, don%26#039;t you believe in freedom of speech/mind?

Obviousely, some countries are using Iran as a victim to put the blame (their own faults) on Iran. And which country is better than Iran to be a victim?They%26#039;ve made the whole world believe that Iran isn%26#039;t a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like %26quot;300%26quot; .

I know Americans don%26#039;t like these either, but what can they do?They can%26#039;t control what the media says.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world.

Thanks.
Reply:Most Americans do not have problems with the Iranian people. We have hundreds of thousands living within our border and they have truly been a credit to our society. Most Americans recognize that Persian%26#039;s are highly educated and have made many contributions to the sciences, arts and humanities. The problem lies with your president. I make any effort to follow his speeches and am always sure to read any article or interview . . . he is a very intelligent, politically sophisticated man who knows exactly what he is doing when he releases these quotes about Israel and joins in on the anti-American rhetoric with Chavez. The people of Iran - who I believe have more in common with the U.S. than not - must understand that this is not the time to bear bait (antagonize) the U.S. As Americans must make efforts to explore diplomatic opportunities, Iran must ask their president to stop making statements that can be misconstrued by international media. Americans are very concerned about your countries nuclear capabilities and many are already calling for an invasion. You must insist that your president halt or suspend nuclear development for eighteen months - in eighteen months the U.S. will have a new president . . . There have already been efforts inside the United States to institute legislation which specifically prohibits the U.S. from invading Iran. Please, please, please just back off for eighteen months. I fear if you do not, we will invade and that will be a mistake that we will both regret. Please post this message on as many Iranian web sites as possible so that your people know that we truly want to explore peaceful options. It is important for the Iranian people to know that while the U.S. is concerned about nuclear technology falling into the wrong hands, we do not see all of the Iranian people as having wrong hands. Please make sure that campaigning for a new American president has already started and will soon come to fruition. We are determined to have peace in the next administration - do not be fulled by the ugly messages some Americans post - support for the war in Iraq is roughly 30% - unfortunately our president was elected when support was at 60%. We should both do everything in our power to persuade our mutual presidents to just shut up and behave for eighteen months. I have faith that we can begin to work on peace in earnest then. Thank you for posting to this web site. You have done a great service to the world by doing so. Please encourage your friends to do so as well. It is up to us to start an honest dialog about our countries so that we do not fall victim to our mutual presidential predjudices and international media bias.
Reply:This is not the first time you%26#039;ve done this - please get a life.

Also, if you really want people to read what you have to say, shorter and more concise would help
Reply:Nice essay :-) You may have posted it before, but I%26#039;m glad you did again so I could have a chance to read it. I actually know a few Iranians here in the US, and they are very lovely people. I agree with you that there needs to be an open dialogue between the US and Iran...unfortunately, especially when there is a language barrier (I don%26#039;t know of anyone here that speaks Farsi :( -- it is easy for generalizations and misinterpretations to go on unchecked. Kudos to you for dispelling some of the myths, especially the part where Pres. allegedly said he wanted Israel %26quot;wiped off the map%26quot;. Again, if there was better communication, and if the media here was more vigilant about fact checking, then people here would know it. Unfortunately, someone will make a claim on Fox and it will reverberate in the echo chamber until it is considered the unabashed TRUTH in mainstream american media. Thanks for your essay, you sound very impassioned, I would love to visit Iran one day myself and see all the wonderful history and culture it has to offer!! :-)
Reply:I think I just hit overload. Also agree w/ Ya.... you want to try a more concise message if you actually want it read.
Reply:Is this president Thom? I bet it is - I don%26#039;t believe your average Iranian has this kind of internet priviledges.
Reply:I have read your piece top to bottom. I get the fact that you feel the need to set the record straight , but have you ever stopped to think that you may be insulting my intelligence by presuming I believe everything I read in the papers and hear on the T.V.

I like the fact that you love you%26#039;re country so much and I would like to see it for myself one day. I would be interested to hear an Iranian lady%26#039;s thoughts on your piece too.
Reply:I know a reasonable and intellectual person would and can agree that a picture says a thousand words..right okay ! Then read on and if you do please read all with an open mind.

(1) How many Iranian flags have you seen burnt in the USA by US citizens and military? ....answer NONE !

(2) How many %26quot;Death to Iran%26quot; marches have you seen in the USA by US citizens and military?.....answer NONE !

(3) How many times did you see Americans spouting out hateful messages to your Iranian people or President?.... answer NONE!

Now can you tell me that a majority of your citizens and military don%26#039;t hate Americans for no reason and are misunderstood? ....answer I THINK NOT........ because a PICTURE SAYS A THOUSAND WORDS!

AND NO MEDIA CAN DISTORT THAT PICTURED IMAGE EVEN IF THEY WANTED TO!

David - I read your profile and see that you are truthful to what you believe and in no way want to disrespect a young man like you. But as you read above a thousand words can be said by one picture and it is sad to see that type of aggrevation towards any country even yours. But you still will have a difficult time to wipe those images out of the minds of many Americans. Americans in general will naturally be angered by images like those that I mention. Do you ever witness Americans denoucing your ways and threatening your lives...sadly no we are more peaceful then given credit for. But God be with you and He will make all the decision not man. I believe that you and I of faith knows this. Peace be with you brother! And God Bless America....Iran...and the World.

Will you keep believing in the media after you've read this?

The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians.It%26#039;d be the only country that has all 4 seasons during the year simoltaneously. It means that while it%26#039;s winter in one part of it, it may be summer / spring in another part!

How is it possible for Iran to nuke somewhere while it doesn%26#039;t have any nukes?!!!(The media have never been intelligent liars).Has Iran ever attacked any countries?There%26#039;s no proof on that.That%26#039;s even what nuclear agency says.Only Iran%26#039;s oppositions are pulling Iran%26#039;s leg. What we%26#039;re doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.

Let me predict their next propaganda against Iran: Now that they%26#039;ve let Iran into the negotiations in Iraq, if the level of peace goes up in Iraq, they%26#039;ll say Iran%26#039;s co-operated with us to imply that it was Iran%26#039;s fault that extremists in Iraq were killing each other! And if the level of peace goes down, they%26#039;ll say Iran didn%26#039;t co-operate with us! In both cases Iran will be in charge! What a great victim! I wonder when people are going to understand that the media is a political game?! I know Americans don%26#039;t like these either, but what can they do?The media are so biased.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world.

Thanks.
Reply:Very little of what you say is a surprise to me. There are many people from Iran living in the U.S. - Anybody who takes the time to get to know them, will realize that things are not as simple as what is printed in the right wing media.
Reply:What?!!!
Reply:Sorry, that%26#039;s way too long to read. But to answer your question, I do not necessarily believe the media, espeially when it comes to anything to do with the middle east. It%26#039;s biased, and geared to fuel hatred and misunderstanding.
Reply:Without reading it all, I believe you have made a refreshing point of view. If indeed you are Iranian and do in fact live there, then you should post your article on your blog site or to You Tube for more exposure rather than just here. This is called freedom. absolute.
Reply:well, i didn%26#039;t read it all, but i skimmed through a section, and one caught my eye.

Are you saying you don%26#039;t believe iran is a threat to use nuclear weapons, just because they don%26#039;t have one YET?

What college do you go to, I%26#039;d like to teach a course in common sense. You would probably fail.

oh, and you think iran found a cure for aids, now? And if we bomb their nuclear facilities, we will most likely destroy this cure, right?
Reply:I would recommend that you sit down and try to package your thoughts into smaller chunks. This forum really isn%26#039;t suited for this kind of discussion. Try to make smaller points and come back here. Believe me it%26#039;ll more effective.
Reply:one thing you don%26#039;t understand is how to keep it short

most of us were alive when the ayatollah Khomeini took over in Iran. It almost sounds like you are describing the pre-revolution days when Tehran was considered a sophisticated city. My Iranian college friends could not go back.

Their parents would tell them things were not so bad .Then they would get letters that had been smuggled out of the country by those same parents telling them not to come home because it was too dangerous.
Reply:The social and cultural aspects of your article were very interesting and informative. However, I do have a few comments about the political section.

Genocide in any form is wrong, whether it takes place in Nazi Germany, Iraq, Bosnia, or Darfur. There is lots of evidence available that shows that the Holocaust did exist, but many people choose to ignore that evidence. Since the nation of Israel did not exist at that time, it seems like logical to assume that a denial of incontravertable evidence has to be linked to a prejudice against the Jewish people.

I think we can both agree that over the years both the Israelis and the Palestinians have suffered as a result of geopolitical decisions that were not well thought out. However, physically expelling the Israelis does not provide a satisfactory solution to the problem. Some kind of accomodation has to be made to allow both sides to live in peace.

And how exactly would you characterize the Iranian government%26#039;s support of Hezbollah? Supporting a clearly terrorist organization does little to paint Iran as a peace-loving nation.
Reply:Clearly, this is an abuse of the forum, regardless of your political beliefs.

In addition, your spelling and grammar are atrocious. Given the length and mangled structure, it%26#039;s a wonder anyone cares what you%26#039;re %26quot;asking.%26quot;

When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran%26#039;s 690000000 population, it%26#039;s OK and no one says they%26#039;re threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News website) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima %26amp; Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all!

I know Americans don%26#039;t like these either, but what can they do?The media are so biased.I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world.

Thanks.
Reply:I am very grateful for all of the information and personal experience you have shared. It is too easy for all of us to be blinded by what we see in the paper or on television. I have never held an opinion about Iran because I have never been there but I hope to travel there one day. Best to you in your studies and in this very biased world.
Reply:Is this the only story you know? Your not very diversified are you? Are all Iranians like this?
Reply:Iran is a good country but the government of iran has:

-counterfeited u.s. currency

-take over our embassy

-taken our diplomats hostage

We have nothing against the people, just the government.

Reply:You win the record for longest post I%26#039;ve ever seen. Interesting stuff, although I%26#039;ve met several people from Iran online and they all say the same things. It seems your country is in for a somewhat westernized revolution.

Bad way to start.

%26quot;They%26#039;ve made the whole world believe that Iran isn%26#039;t a peaceful country and represent false image of Iranians by making insulting movies like %26quot;300%26quot; .%26quot;

I saw 300 and didn%26#039;t think anything but %26quot;Hooray carnage!%26quot;

690,000,000? One too many zeros - the population is 68,688,433, according the CIA factbook. Minor quibble...

You%26#039;re just looking to be offended. How many Iranians hate Americans en masse for being fat idiots? Probably about the same percentage of the population in America that hates Iranians for being intolerant, Islamic extremists that support Ahmedinejad.

Let idiots hate idiots, and the rest of us will go about our way. Maybe they%26#039;ll even kill each other off.
Reply:I am American but I do not hate, I do not judge, and I try to keep an open mind! You have givin alot of information that many people will still not be able to see! Even after they read they will still not understand. Keep speakin your mind and feeding people the truth!
Reply:I give you the same answer I gave two months ago to the exact same question:

Yes, many in our country hear only part of a story and formulate opinions on a limited understanding. Actually, your question answers the question many will ask here in America - %26quot;Why are we in Iraq when Iran is more of a threat?%26quot; Informed citizens understand that Iran is headed by a man who is desparate to keep power has lower popularity in his country than Bush does in ours. The culture is hungry for the ideals of freedom and civil rights in your country, so Ahmeddinejad then says things to divert your displeasure and create more national unity. He gets a lot of attention from our western media and makes makes him appear a more prominant figure. America has been attacked by a philosophy, not a nation, and has moved the battle off our shores to a country that had proven a bigger nusiance. whether that be the right or wrong move is the cause of much debate here. However, we have not taken the battle to your country and the intelligent citizen understands why - much of what you pointed out in your question.

As to the difference in your culture from ours, I think you will find some brash people who make it seem otherwise, but most of us feel that other cultures are to be respected as long as they don%26#039;t seek to destroy western culture. this includes the island of western culture in your part of the world known as Israel. Likewise said, many of my countrymen have different opinions on our allegiance to the Israelis, the Holocaust, the level of nuclear threat posed by your country, and many don%26#039;t realize just how modern Iran is and how you are a unique people from the Arab people. However, I can%26#039;t say that you have convinced me that your leader is void of malice towards us
Reply:Unfortunately, David, the media has the money to convince people to think the way they want, whether it is the truth or not. It%26#039;s all about money and politics. If it were up to the working people of the world I don%26#039;t think we would have any problem with the idea of peace. And I don%26#039;t think you ride to school on a camel but I am a little miffed about the football stadium thing-really......would it hurt to let women play?

Peace and happiness to you.
Reply:I agree with you on most of the things you have written(about 85/100 ) But that part that says Iranian girls wouldn%26#039;t go to football stadium or they don%26#039;t like football is not true . They DON%26#039;T have the rights to decide instead of us (Iranian girls). I am one of those who likes football.

What happens to your previous imaginations when you learn a bit of the truth?

500>I think reading this in 5-7 minutes would be better than listening to the news in a lifteime.Plz don%26#039;t think I%26#039;m a very old person.Just 18.A university student studying English who just cannot sit back and hope.

The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians.It%26#039;d be the only country that has all 4 seasons during the year simoltaneously. It means that while it%26#039;s winter in one part of it, it may be summer / spring in another part!

How is it possible for Iran to nuke somewhere while it doesn%26#039;t have any nukes?!!!(The media have never been intelligent liars).Has Iran ever attacked any countries?There%26#039;s no proof on that.That%26#039;s even what nuclear agency says.Only Iran%26#039;s oppositions are pulling Iran%26#039;s leg. What we%26#039;re doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.

I have SOB for 5 years and no doctors can find out what is the problem?

499>I have seen many doctors these last past 5 yrs but still have no answer to my problem. All started one morning after my shower, since then I can still not breath. I had X-rays, PFT, scan, genetic antitrypsin test, also EKG, echo cardiogram at rest and exercise...from the X rays my lungs are a bit big but according to the different pulmonary doctors (amoung which one is specialized in emphysema and lung cancer) I don%26#039;t have emphysema, my PFT is excellent and shows that I use 120% of my lungs. I don%26#039;t have athma neither pulmonary hypertention. I also went to Mayo clinic and they also didn%26#039;t have any answers. I am very desperate and would do anything to breath again, I feel now so limited with my life, however my breathing improves greatly when I lay down. I also have been on anti-acid medication and claratin D for a couple of month with no improvement, also took cortisone. I hope someone there can help me, I don%26#039;t have med inssurance and can%26#039;t afford to pay doctors anymore. Thanks a lot
Reply:Could be indigestion!! like you mentioned. Shortness of breath can also occur as a panic attack!!!! are you having panic attacks? Mabe you are and do not realize it. Your panicing over having a panic attack. Right, you feel it coming on and that makes you more panicy. I would look into being treated for indigestion or panic attacks!
Reply:What exactly is SOB? Add it to your details so I can offer what I think.
Reply:Where do you live? Near a busy street? Downwind from an %26quot;asbestos%26quot; (vermiculite) mine? Is your house full of dust? Is there anything in your past that might cause these symptoms to be psychological in origin? Are you overweight? Are you a chimera? There are a million questions I could ask you, but you need to become your own expert (it appears). What was in that shower water anyway - chlorine gas? Are you still using the same shower every morning? Is there mold in your house?
Reply:get more exercise and avoid junk food .if you don%26#039;t have asma your lungs are fine it must be a muscular problem . instead of running to the doctor for help get a good workout and you will feel a differance . if you don%26#039;t workout those muscles that make you breat get weak and make it hard to breath
Reply:Have you ever been treated with corticosteroids for this or any other condition prior to this one?

Another funny thing: Your footage about stoning the women who have committed adultery.Have you ever asked yourself they relate to how many years ago?Just for your information, those are from Afghanistan which was once ruled by those freaks (Taliban).I find it difficult to make you understand that Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan are SEPERATE COUNTRIES! and thet we%26#039;re Persian not Arab! And I find it even more difficult to make you understand that Iran is a normal country like any other countries in the world.There%26#039;s nothing mysterious about it!(The media is very good at making good scary titles: BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS!!! IRAN UNDERCOVER!!! This would be enough to scare people away! Iranians are much more educated, sophisticated, intelligent and open-minded than what you think!!! I%26#039;m sure you don%26#039;t know that there are lots and lots of Iranian geniouses and scientists that are all under 25.You don%26#039;t hear about their discoveries and inventions on TV. A small example is this 17 year old boy who%26#039;s invented 72 amazing inventions that the biggest scientists haven%26#039;t ever managed to.You don%26#039;t know that Iranian students and spotsmen are winning gold and silver medals in different compotitions in the world all the time such as robotics, biology, maths, physics, anything! Why don%26#039;t your media talk about them?Did you know that the countries having the highest number of scientists in the world are in this order? 1-India 2-Korea 3-Iran

A few weeks ago Iran uncovered the most effective anti-H.I.V medicine and now it%26#039;s signing treaties with other countries to export it.I digged the news on the internet, but there was no single sign of that. What I found instead? %26quot;Prez Bush CLAIMS that bomb parts are imported from Iran into Iraq!%26quot; The media have gone mad.They%26#039;d put CLAIMS on the headlines, but they would never talk about facts! Some interesting facts:

Iran is the pionier in medicine and gnetics and Iranian surgens have found lots of new methods for treating spinal defects and many other diseases (mainly the treatment for different types of cancer) and the the best brain and heart surgens are Iranian surgens. The head of Mars Mission in NASA is Iranian. The best designer of sports cars working in Germany is Iranian. Some of the best 3D animators are Iranian. One of the top 5 movie directors in the world is Iranian.(you%26#039;ve always heard about Spiel Berg I think!).Iran is one of the best countries in counter-engineering.Holds the second place in building dams. The 4th highest tower (Milad tower) in the world is in Tehran (which you can visit in the following links). The strongest man (the lift-weighter) is Iranian. The woman, and a song by one of the pop singers who/which won the nobel peace prize are Iranians.It%26#039;s the only country that has all 4 seasons during the year AT THE SAME TIME.That means while it%26#039;s winter in one part of it, it may be summer / spring in another part! And as you all know, Iranian girls are famous for being terrific.Persian rug which you all know.Persian literature again you know that is so famous.Persian culture (which is now westernised and only a little has survived!) According to statistics Tehran is the cheapest capital city in the world for foriegners with Dollars of course not for us! (Cos our rate is different) Who do you think is building Dubi?Arabs? No my friends, Iranian architectures, engineers and traders funding them, cos they don%26#039;t think building the same things in Iran would be beneficial for them, Since the media scare tourists away from Iran. There are many other things.It%26#039;s endless.

This is a photo of Tehran: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tehran

I thought it%26#039;s better to clarify some political matters as well:

Some of the Americans I chatted with (not all of them), said here in the U.S it%26#039;s said that president Ahmadinejad hates the U.S and Israel and wants to nuke them!! This is so odd, their media is good at putting comments.It%26#039;s easy to show a video or an image of our president or leader on the T.V screen or on the internet and say he says this, he says that.....I really don%26#039;t get the point why our politicians defame themselves by talking about the things that have got nothing to do with us.Does verbal defence of Palestinians cause them to have a better life? The thing is that they occasionally make some statements that the media would misuse it agaisnt Iran. like picking up some specific sensitive phrases from among a long speech (without reffering to the main points and reasons for that speech) and putting so many bad comments on that.No sane person would take it serious, cos everyone would have known by now that 99.99% of what the media say turns out to be wrong and the same percent of what they predict would happen, never happens!

First of all, Iranians don%26#039;t hate anyone. If our government complains about some injustice going on in the world, it%26#039;s not bad.Is it? We don%26#039;t hate Jews, nor do we hate Americans.They%26#039;re both nice people. If they%26#039;re media are fooling them, it%26#039;s not their fault. If I were in their shoes, I would hate Iran too regarding all the terrible lies they keep hearing about it nearly everyday.Although ordinary Iranians don%26#039;t care about world affairs, I%26#039;ve got to say that for us Israel is not equal with Jews! Israel is a govt, Jews are faithful people! A few of them live here in our neighbourhood and they live just like the rest of the Iranians. No difference. And two of Iranians parliment members are Jews. Who says we want to force the others to convert to Islam?Have you ever found a Muslem knocking at your door asking you to do so?That%26#039;s so funny. Christians and Jews are both God believers and respectful to us.I wonder why the media like putting words in our mouth and raising hatred. In Iran, religion would be the least important thing, it means that where you come from and what you%26#039;re religion is, are not important to us at all.And I wonder why some Muslem countries think there%26#039;s a problem between Shiites and Sunnies, it doesn%26#039;t make sense in Iran.

I wonder Iran is a threat to whom? How is it possible for Iran to nuke somewhere while it doesn%26#039;t have any nukes?!!!(The media have never been intelligent liars).Has Iran ever attacked anywhere?There%26#039;s no proof of that.That%26#039;s what even nuclear agency says.Only Iran%26#039;s oppositions are pulling Iran%26#039;s leg. What we%26#039;re doing is legal. What they ask us to do (ignoring our international rights) is illegal and nonsense.

He was talking about relocating Israel, so that they could live seperate from Palestinians and they could both live in peace.They%26#039;ve only told you this phrase not the rest of it and it%26#039;s mistranslated deliberitely.Iran%26#039;s always defended itself, but it%26#039;s not an offensive country. While most countries have nukes and are clearly threatening Iran to nuke us! Good isn%26#039;t it?

Some say he%26#039;s said: Holocaust is a myth! again this is a single phrase from among a long speech and there are totally logical reasons for saying so.If 6000000 Jews were killed, that%26#039;s so terrible, but those 300000 Shiite Moslems killed by Saddam aren%26#039;t important at all! Over 650000 Iraqi people are killed and it%26#039;s not important! When Fox News simply says: America and Israel are capable of destroying and killing all Iran%26#039;s 690000000 population, it%26#039;s OK and no one says they%26#039;re threatening other countries to nuke them (I saw this with my own eyes on the Fox News web-site) Millions of people killed in Afghanistan, Hiroshima %26amp; Nakazaki and vietnam war are not considered human beings at all! Now I think you%26#039;d get the point why he%26#039;s IRONICALLY said it%26#039;s a mith. Moreover, don%26#039;t you believe in freedom of speech/mind? I know Americans don%26#039;t like these either, but what can they do?I hope someday the media would end all this instead of playing a negative role in the world.

Reply:Thank you for sharing your point of view. In many area%26#039;s you are correct. I have Iranian friends and they are well educated, modern, and very good people.

Unfortunately, your government has made statements that are provacative, at best. When your president, Ahmadinejad, says %26quot;Israel should be wiped off the map%26quot;, it does nothing to promote Iran in a positive manner. The fact that he didn%26#039;t say Iran would do it is not important, many believe he would if he could. Why would a head of state even say this?

You ought to educate yourself on Palestine and Palestinians. It was the Jews who were the original Palestinians. BTW, how many Jews have acted as suicide bombers, killing innocent women and children?

What government has threatened Iran with nuclear bombs? None. Nada. Zip. And you are incorrect, most countries do NOT have nukes. Very few do. They are: Russia, U.S., France, Pakistan, India, U.K., and possibly N. Korea, and Israel.

You fail to understand America and the media. I agree with you, the media (here and everywhere) is often wrong. The media does not speak for the government. We have freedom of speech, they can say what they want. As you said, that doesn%26#039;t make it true. Also, a news organization stating it is possible and country%26#039;s president stating it ought to be done are two different things, don%26#039;t you think?.

Even America%26#039;s opposition is against the persuit of nuclear arms by Iran. The International community offered to provide Iran free processed uranium for use in the Russian built nuclear reactors. Why would you turn that down? Why would you even have to think about enriching uranium to the point of it%26#039;s possible nuclear arms use?

You talk about Hiroshima, Nagasaki. You are correct, many many people died. You are also incorrect, we do see them as human beings and are sorry and horrified it happened. The question at the time was, %26quot;How many will die if we have to invade Japan?%26quot; The answer was far too many on both sides and, it will quickly end the war. Also, in war, if it comes down to you or me dieing, which do you choose?

How many were killed when the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam? Estimates range from two to three million people were killed after the U.S. left. Was this good?

American%26#039;s are quite knowledable about the numbers of Kurds gassed in Iraq, the numbers of Shiites killed by Saddam, and the war between Iran and Iraq. How about Saddam%26#039;s invasion of Kuait, is this really the conversation you wish to have. Saddam had, for all intents and purposes, enslaved the Shiites. The Sunni minority ruled the Shiite majority. It may not be this way in Iran, but in Iraq, it was different. Why were you at war with each other?

Many Americans still think back to the hostages taken for 444 days by Iran. That wasn%26#039;t the act of a modern, enlightened government. Only time and deeds will change that. Anti-American and anti-Iranian rhetoric will not move us forward.

I do hope people read through your lengthy note and look at some of the links. Sharing this may help everyone. Iran has a great people and a rich culture and history. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Reply:I checked out several of the links, there%26#039;s some very cool music. Thanks for that. Hopefully people will continue to share and see we actually have many things in common, also. Best regards! Report It

Reply:ITS like the millionith time u posted this topic!!!
Reply:Man are u nuts? Who wants to read your loooooong question?
Reply:Nice bit of propaganda.
Reply:We are not our government. I have Iranian friends and I do not hate Iran. Iran, the ancient nation of Persia, has fine art, music and people. Our president doesn%26#039;t like your president. Both are overly provocative, but it does not reflect the feelings of the American people.
Reply:I totally agree with you!!

Iranians are a great people, and most Americans realize that the old footage is pure propoganda.

Iran is a peaceful modern nation, and no harm to America. One day our two nations will be great friends.
Reply:Thank you for posting. I found all of this informative and interesting. This posting if read thoughtfully can promote peace and understanding between the US and Iran.

George Bush of course, has his own agenda. Steal oil.
