Heard Of A Link Between Anti-depressants And Brain Cancer?

51>No, I have not! I have heard that frequent blows to the head cause brain tumors! Doctors will not say that outright, but my father and husband BOTH have brain tumors. My dad's is not nearly as bad as my husbands' since his is benign. My husband's on the other hand is malignant. When my father was a young boy, he'd hit his head against the wall on purpose... just for fun! When my husband was younger, he played tackle football and also was accused of being somewhat "clutzy" and ALWAYS hitting his head when he'd fall. I am convinced that the tumors that these men in my life suffer from are all because of getting hit on the head one too many times!! JUST FYI!!!
Reply:I haven't and I hope it isn't true. Life is hard enough!
Reply:Haven't heard this one until now. There's a link between everything and cancer these days. Don't believe everything that you hear/read because most of it is nonsense.
Reply:I hope it is not. I have seen patients on prozac for the last ten years and they have not developed any brain tumor. Even if there is a link between anti-depressants and brain cancer people prefer to have the therapy for depression.

But studies have shown that Certain types of anti-depressants can increase the risk of breast cancer. and some cases have been found in US. But the link to Brain cancer is ruled out.-

Can using anti-perisperant deoderant cause cancer?

50>The research is leading towards yes on this one, because of the aluminum in deoderant/anti-perspirants. You can buy organic deoderants at most health food stores %26amp; now also walmart/target/etc, are starting to carry them as they gain popularity.
Reply:urban legend but it can inflame your lympnodes it happened to me
Reply:No I don't think so. It must be a myth.
Reply:IT CAN INFLAME THE LYMPH NODES BUT NO CANCER OR IT CAN CAUSE BOILS BUT NEVER CANCER JUST KEEP THE PORES UNDER YOUR UNDERARM REALLY CLEAN IT HELPS

GOOD LUCK
Reply:not that i kno of.

Do Anti-perisperants cause Breast Cancer..?

49>I heard that they do since u tend to put them under ur armpits and they block the pores to prevent sweating, I actually use Nivea dry coz it's the best but I'm wondering if they are dangerouse??
Reply:anti-persperants cause breast cancer, microwaves cause brain cancer, cell phones cause brain cancer, the smell of feul causes cancer. They say that about everything, soon we will only be safe living in a bubble!!!!!! The answer to your question is no.Breast cancer is usually passed down through your family. I know there are a percentage of women who say it is not hereditary, but your doctor will tell you that it is. The world we live in is so dangerous, really everything we do is hazardous. Just walking across the street can get you killed. I guess if you feel like you are preventing yourself from the risks of breast cancer then you should continue avoiding anti-perspirants,but you should avoid the microwave, and cell phone as well!!! I'm not trying to be a jerk,i understand your concerns.
Reply:it has been stated that DEODORANT with aluminum in it does cause cancer. im not sure why but i read it somewhere. so check the ingredients next time you buy deodorant. ;)
Reply:People are more concerned about the aluminum chlorohydrate in the stick
Reply:not that i know of or read about... but it's good to wash the materials off the skin often. :D

all things clog pores.. make sure to keep pore clean after the use of any product is no longer needed for any period of time. (chemicals also that are in products to.. not just grooming products but foods.. clothing.. cleansing products... :D )

i did hear one time that bras caused cancer of the breast due to the way the garment would shift the breast and tumors would form so anything is a possibility.

:D

anti perspirant isn't as dangerous as the next thing to put it in that sense... but do try to stay clean and nice smelling when you must be presentable.
Reply:Yes, it's scarey, isn't it? Alzheimer's victims' autopsies also have amounts of aluminum in their brains! Try Queen Helene Vitamin E aluminum free deodorant. You can find it in health food stores

Are anti-nausea pills for cancer patients really hundreds of dollars when pot does the very same thing?

48>Medical Marijana is available, it helps with nausea and helps increase the appetite. A Dr can prescribe it, but most patients need to ask their Dr for it, It comes in a pill form it is not smoked and it does work wonders. Most insurance companies will cover it, I got a prescription for it a 30 day supply (2 a day) was approximately 463.00 which breaks down to about 15.00 a day or 7.50 a pill. I had to cover the co pay on it which for me was 50.00.

The name for it is Marinol and it does help
Reply:Well I have found from personal experience suffering cancer it seems as soon as you put that word cancer in the Fraze these companies know its something you realy need to help save your life or at least to help make your life a little more comfortable they really jack the price up. I feel our Government should get in there and put some controls on this.

As a point to your Question depending exactly on what the drug name is yes they could be hundreds of dollars.

One of the drugs I had to take for my treatment for cancer was well over $200.00 per dose and I had to take it three times a day,,,,, plus other drugs the doctor ordered.

I truly feel it is a RIP off. They have found a legal way to rob us and totally get away with it. ( something needs to be done about this.)
Reply:YES. Pot does help to minimise the nauseating effect of cancer treatment, for this reason alone it should be fully legalised :) I for one would be a ready and willing customer
Reply:yes but pot has its own side affect and is illegal unless you get it from a doctor
Reply:Anti-nausea pills are a dime a dozen.

HELP! Do Anti-Depressants work? I come from a close family. Last year my Grandad was told he had cancer....

47>and its been hard and a struggle since then. Last week my nan was told she had lung cancer and is dying. My boyfriend of 7 years told me he does't want to b with me anymore as he's been seeing someone else. My best friend (my younger sis is going away 2 uni in sept. I know this is nothing compared to what some people have to go through, but with everything happening all at once i frankly can't cope. Will anti-depressents help. I'm only 24 and am worried that takin these may affect future jobs as I know it affects things like life insurance and national insurance payments become higher as your viewed as a higher risk. I really don't know what else 2 do. I'm normally a very logical person
Reply:A band-aid at best, it still won't resolve the underlying issues will it? You need to take the hard route and sort your troubles out.
Reply:yes they do work
Reply:I don't think that they would help you,

I think that you need to have some fun and start doing things that you will enjoy,

Anti-depressants do work but I think that your life problems are making you feel claustraphobic,

I think some breathing space would help how you're feeling,

Then if that doesn't help then I'd see your doctor
Reply:Talk to a doctor. As far as a job goes nobody has to know about it. I'm not sure about life insurance but I don't think that has much to do with it either.
Reply:they won't help in the long run.

its not the answer for your troubles.

you might want to look at some more natural solutions such as st johns wort
Reply:i really do feel for u. i have been thru similar. you r a little young tho to go straight onto this kind of medication.

i recommend that u see your own doctor and see what they recommend. personally i think u should ask ur doctor to arrange for u to see a CPN nurse. this is someone who acts like a counsellor to u in times like this.

helps u thru the tough times and helps u realise how to get thru without medication where possible. and they r wonderful listeners who u can usually arrange to meet as and when u feel u want to, without the need to keep booking a visit or meet thru ur doctor.

i hope things go better for u soon.

all the best x
Reply:personally i would not recommend them....they make you feel worse you come dependant on them, also i like to be in control of myself and my mind, anti-depressants don't help they just make you worse, trying to come off them is like murder, so i would say they don't help at all
Reply:The very way you pose your question says to me that you are not in depression. Yes you have a very emotional time of things. Anti depressants do work but sometimes it can be a lot of trial and experiment to get the right one and dosage. You are only 24 the whole world is out there waiting for you. You will find someone else. Its better now than after you married him. People do get ill and people do move away. You may even move away its part of the course of life and you will cope and even enjoy whats to come. Try to keep away from anti depression medication if you can. If you feel that things is realy getting to much try councelling first. It really helps to talk. The fact that you ask for some advice here shows that you will get some benefit from some councilling. I work in mental health and see a lot of depression and medication. Also everyone at some time in their life will feel very depressed but it nearly always passes. So please tell yourself that you are strong and young and you will beat and pass through this difficult time you are passing through. I wish you every success in the future and remember theres always another guy out there who would love to be seen with you on his arm. Good luck.
Reply:Please talk the situation over with your doctor. I have been on anti depressants they take a while but they did work. My doctor was excellent and ensured I came off them when no longer required. You don't sound depressed, although I am not a medical person I would say you have what is termed Anxiety State and little wonder with all that's going on in your life. I also have suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and for that apparently it is thought small regular does of anti depressants help. If it is any reassurance , anytime on these I have always declared for life insurance, travel insurance etc and it did not effect premiums. Some travel insurances got their medical centre to phone me back and they clarified all was in order to proceed with the insurance. Only once when I was on a high daily dose of anti depressant (which if prescribed now you wouldn't be put on I am sure) they put an additional excess on my travel insurance but only if I had to claim owing to a problem from this 1 medical condition, the actual premium was not increased. Also when I went through a broker for car insurance they simply asked if I was on any regular medication, when I told them what I was on they said it was law I should tell DVLA. I duly did this, stating dosage I was on and they sent a letter confirming I was entitiled to drive, again no extra costs on policy. I am saying all this but I live in Uk, unsure where you are from as you mention increase in National Insurance payments which certain doesn't happen here.
Reply:As a short term solution yes they can help you through a bad patch...but would it not be better to take a deep breath and try talking to some one??Maybe you could talk to your sister.Spend some time with her and maybe she can be your support and maybe you will be hers ...Im sure she is nervous about going away too.

Now that it has been proven that anti-perspirants cause cancer, what do we use??

46>There is no evidence that the sprays containing antiperspirant ingredients are the only ones with cancer causing properties. This applies to any product (including sticks) that contains an antiperspirant ingredient (e.g. aluminum salts). I would recommend using a deodorant only product, this suffices for most. If you have severe underarm sweating, ask your physician about Botox injections (they decrease sweating under the arms).
Reply:the sprays cause cancer, just use a stick
Reply:makes sense, if you plug up the pores, then you keep that bad stuff in you.

Just use deodorant, or I think they have a natural anti perspirant at the health food store
Reply:Soap and water.
Reply:Dried flowers like in medieval times
Reply:you can sill use anti-perspirants. the amount applied when wearing deorderant is minimal. you won't get cancer from your deorderant.
Reply:When did they find this out? Your breath
Reply:What are you smoking....there is no evidence of that. I notice you have not supplied any material to back up your statement.

A new study, prompted by an urban myth spread on the Internet, shows there is no evidence that antiperspirants or deodorants can cause breast cancer.

The study, appearing this week in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, examined the personal hygiene habits of 813 women with breast cancer and 793 women without the disease and found no link between cancer and body odor control cosmetics.

"Antiperspirant and deodorant use did not differ whether or not a participant (in the study) had breast cancer," said Dana K. Mirick, an epidemiologist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. This indicates, she said, that use of the personal products does not cause the disease.

Mirick, first author of the study, said that the data was collected starting in 1992 as part of a larger study testing if other common exposures might be factors in breast cancer.

"About that time, these rumors (about antiperspirants and cancer) started to pop up on the Internet," said Mirick. "So we threw in these additional questions."

Other results from the large study were published earlier, but nothing was done about the antiperspirant question until Mirick and her co-authors realized that women were still concerned about the issue, even 10 years after it was first raised on the Internet. The American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute were so concerned that both put out notices on the Internet stating there was no evidence linking the personal products with cancer.

"On the main Fred Hutchinsonline they still occasionally get phone calls from women who are concerned about this," said Mirick. "Even though no researchers believed there was a connection, there were no published studies on it."

Since they had the data, she and her co-authors decided to write up a paper and, perhaps, lay to rest a persistent myth.

"It is important for people to have correct information ... that can eliminate fear about a deadly disease from an exposure that is quite common," said Mirick. "These myths induced fear because this is a product that almost everybody uses."

Mirick said the original rumor started more than 10 years ago, probably from a widely distributed, anonymous e-mail.

She looked for a Web site that carried the myth, but found nothing.

"I don't know if there was ever a Web site, or if it just came from a round robin e-mail," said Mirick. "But I do know the question was raised before 1992. ... People were concerned."
Reply:First of all, it hasn't been proven that anti-perspirants cause cancer. I am a patient at John Hopkins, and it is still a question/theory that is in dispute. That said, all the major companies make deoderant without anti-perspirant properties that you can buy in any drugstore, and you can buy organic products in the health food section of any store.
Reply:proven by who is my question
Reply:The discharges like perspiration, nose flow, loose motion etc. from the body is a natural phenomenon of self curing by the system. The harmful unwanted stuff is thrown out by the body for health restoration. These discharges are not the disease but symptoms of certain disease, It is interesting to note that the symptom of discharge is never singular. It has many other disease symptoms alongside. The only cure is to treat all these symptoms in totality and not singularly. And that is only possible by administering a suitable indicated Homoeopathic remedy.

Consult a Homoeopath for a sure and Permanent cure.

I think celery is a good anti oxidant for cancer suferers. When it is hard and fresh..?

45>Do you agree ????
Reply:wow did you just hint a t penises while talking about celery and cancer patients. your retarded.
Reply:Its cool but relying on just celery is crazy. I also believe that supplements are more important because you can get 1000 times the amount of whatever vitamin/mineral out of a pill than in a veggie or two. Better yet intraveineous sodium ascorbate. Proper amount of water and salt (sea or Hymallaen, yes the mountains), exercise, and a very strict and proper diet will eliminate cancer completely.

Excuse my spelling.
Reply:I do not agree it might help if the person can eat it , but during treatment even the smell of celery made me vomit

What happens when anti-vivisectionists get cancer? Do they refuse the treatment coz it was tested on animals?

Do you normally get uti for prostate cancer patients? anti-biotics doesn't seem to clear it?

43>It is very common for patients suffering from lower urinary tract obstructive diseases (such as prostate cancer or BPH) to develop UTIs.

If endoscopic urethral procedures or urethral catheter has been used or in the case of prostate surgery or biopsy it is more likely that subsequent UTI is more difficult to treat as it is caused by less common (but more resistant) germs.

UTIs are treated with antibiotics. Your health care provider may also prescribe a drug for burning and discomfort. For most UTIs, the symptoms go away within 24 hours after you begin treatment. Make sure you finish all of the antibiotic to prevent recurrence of the infection.

To help prevent a urinary tract infection:

* Drink lots of fluids every day.

* Empty your bladder often and completely.

* Practice safe sex. Always use latex or polyurethane condoms.

* Urinate after sex to flush out bacteria.

* If you are uncircumcised, wash under the foreskin each time you take a bath or shower.
Reply:they cut your prostate out then you can't function sexually anymore that is normal.

Cancer

By Dr.Rangadhar Satpathy

Cancer is a cellular malfunction.

Noni鈥檚 effect to cure cancer work in cellular level.

The sooner a cancer is detected, the greater the chance of remission.

Noni helps to fight the cancer in the following way

(A) By its anti carcinogenic agent

Noni juice contains 150 neutraceuticals. Among them six have been shown to fight cancer.

(1) Polysaccharides

Polysaccharides are found abundant in Noni. Polysaccharides block the adhesion of mutated cells to other cells, so stopping metastasis. Blocking the adhesion of mutated cells to new cell depends on the density of the polysaccharides sulphate groups, their mol.wt and their carbohydrate structure.

(2) Anthraquinones

鈥amnacanthal, an anthraquinone inhibits the growth of malignant cells.

鈥lizarin, another antraquinone block the blood circulation to the malignant tumors, hence prevents its growth.

鈥nthraquinone reduces the cytochrome c (a hem protein whose main function is electron transport using the hem prosthetic group. It act as a cancer causing agent in the body) inside the body without causing the formation of any new free radicals. (Source 鈥?from the research study conducted by group of scientist in Japan 1990)

(3) Epigollocatechin gallate (EGCg)

鈥GCg is a polyphenolic flavonoid antioxidant found in abundant in Noni.

鈥GCg prevent the growth of malignant cells and so induce apoptosis.

鈥n cancer cell the enzyme NOX is active all time. In normal cell the NOX is only active during cell division in response to Growth hormone signal. The EGCg interferes the tumor associated activity of NOX. (Source 鈥?From the research study on Noni juice)

(3) Terpenes compound :

鈥t helps in preventing the proliferation of malignant cells and induces apoptosis.

鈥imonene one terpens has been shown to prevent mammary, liver, lungs carcinoma and also may be effective in treating leukemia.

鈥eta carotene, other terpenes helps to stimulate thymus gland to secrete more T- cells that destroys the carcinoma cells.

鈥rsolic acid, one terpen compound has anti carcinogenic effect both externally and internally to prevent the growth of cancerous cell and inducing apoptosis. (Source- research conducted by the National Cancer Institute, Finland)

(4) Proxeronine

Dr.Heinicke鈥檚 theory suggests that xeronine (conversion from proxeronine by the enzyme proxeroninase) combines with various biochemical鈥檚 and building blocks i.e. hormones, proteins, enzymes, serotonins, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants in intracellular level. The Golgi apparatus and reticuloendothelium then assemble the necessary compounds into a specific 鈥榩ackage鈥?鈥?that 鈥榩ackage鈥?is sent from healthy cells to deranged cells to help in regeneration or rebuild the damaged cells.

Sqamous cell carcinoma

Noni helps to prevents proliferation of cancer cell %26amp; Hence prevents cell mitosis

(B) Modulating the body Immune process.

Noni helps to modulate the production, activity and effectiveness of some immune system agent. That are 鈥?br>

鈥?Nitric Oxide:

Nitric Oxide is produced by activated macrophages plays a role in the host protection against pathogen as well as malignant tumor. Noni increases the body鈥檚 biosynthesis of nitric oxide

鈥?Interleukin:

Noni modulate the production, activity and effectiveness of interleukin-2 that enhances the production of B-cell antibodies and also the cytotoxicity character of Natural Killer (NK) cells.

鈥?Interleukins:

Noni modulate the production %26amp; activity of interferon-y that helps in the activation of macrophages and the over all process of cell mediated immunity. (Source- Dr.Hirajumi report)

鈥?Tumor necrosis factor (TNF):

Tumor necrosis factor from various macrophages destroys the malignant cells. Noni modulate the production, activity of TNF from the macrophages

鈥?Lipopolysachrides (LPS):

The LPS in serum stimulate the body鈥檚 immune process to eliminate any pathogens. Noni help to modulate the production of LPS in serum thus increases the immune process of the body.

鈥?Natural killer cells (NK cells):

Noni helps to modulate the production of NK cells that destroys the malignant cells.

Thus Noni juice is multifaceted in its approach to fight cancer.
Reply:Yes it can happen especially if you have radiation therapy. There are many alternative therapies out there. Loma Linda University in Riverside CA has great results with remissions of prostate cancer. You should look them up on the web.

Can anti-peptic ulcer drugs cause cancer?

39>I read in an insert of anti-peptic ulcer drug "preclude malignancy before starting medication". Does it imply that these medicines may cause cancer?
Reply:Proton pump inhibitors have some link, but I have not ran accross anything worrisome for drugs like pepcid or zantac which act by a different mechanism to block acid secretion.

Avoiding caffeine and alcohol which can promote acid secretion, and coffee which has inflammatory oils which promote ulcers are things to decrease the need for acid reducers.

Can anti-perspirants really cause breast cancer?

38>Can anti-perspirants really cause breast cancer?
Reply:No. It's one of those half truths that sound like it might be real, but no scientific documented evidence exists that clearly links anti-perspirants to breast cancer. The myth all started from a hoax email that was circulated and continues to be circulated. Despite the fact that little or no evidence exists people continue to believe the rumors. This question has been asked hundreds of times in this forum.

Anti-perspirant use related to breast cancer?

37>Is it true that anti-perspirants can cause breast cancer, or is this just an old wives tale? What do you think?
Reply:Personally, I think it's a load of hooey. This is an urban legend. I've heard a million times and it occasionally graces my e-mail inbox (to the resulting tune of the DELETE button).

Just to be sure, I checked it out on Snopes.com. If you're not familiar with Snopes, it's an awesome website that investigates the truth behind urban legends to determine whether they are true, false, or undetermined. I was surprised to discover that this one received an "Undetermined" rating! That just means that there's not enough information to determine whether it's true or false. The research contradicts itself and more studies need to be done to determine whether antiperspirants can cause cancer.

Of course, it seems to me that ANYTHING can cause cancer these days, even breathing. :-D

I think what this calls for is prudence. Some people are simply more likely to develop breast cancer than others. Is there a history of breast cancer in your family? Are you at a higher risk of developing breast cancer? Do you do the monthly self-exams? Do you get a mammogram if your doctor says you need one? Simply being careful and vigilant can help catch cancer early, with a higher chance of successfully treating it.

Personally, I wouldn't lose sleep over it, and I don't think using Stink Stoppers will increase your chances of developing breast cancer.
Reply:has nothing to do with it that was spread by a celebrity

Can anti-perspirants really cause breast cancer?

36>I jst started shaving my underarms %26amp;%26amp; i also use anti-perspirant. %26amp;%26amp; is it true that anti-perspirants can cause breast cancer? because if so, i might stop using it ..
Reply:GREETINGS, first off you are smart to ask this. It's not so much the antiperspirants that cause the cancer, it's the ingredients, you want to avoid aluminum based products. There is alot of people who will say no, and some that say yes, but I will give you my opinion based on what I know being a cancer survivor and activist, plus former pharmacy asst (see profile). Any product with aluminum in it used over the skin and lymph nodes will absorb in, over time the product builds up and stays more in the body. They have done studies on lymph nodes called the axilla which is the main node under the arms, armpit area, that is often a spreading place for cancer. The newest form of surgery is called an axillary node dissection where they take part of it but not all in order to try to prevent lymphedema. In those studies they found aluminum traces in those nodes and they do know that it can cause cancer, so based on that, knowing cancer is present in these women and so is the traces, it's pretty obvious it's not healthy to use them and yes the ones that contain the aluminum after time build ut and can cause cancer.

There are alot of natural products on the market like spray salts, rock salts and non-aluminum so I would opt for those.
Reply:The first thing I do when I hear an absurd rumor is rush to www.snopes.com or www.urbanlegends.com

According to Snopes its undetermined BUT, there has been a study that debunks the myth. The study was printed in the USA Today newspaper. Here is that article in part along with a link to article.

" The study, appearing this week in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, examined the personal hygiene habits of 813 women with breast cancer and 793 women without the disease and found no link between cancer and body odor control cosmetics.

"Antiperspirant and deodorant use did not differ whether or not a participant (in the study) had breast cancer," said Dana K. Reply:Yes, it can, if you don't wash your armpit daily. That's just a matter of personal hygiene.
Reply:No, this is abslutly NOT true! I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer when I was 19 and trust me, I asked my dr. He said there is NO truth to that at all.
Reply:Unequivocally NO. There is no connection between underarm antiperspirant use and breast cancer.

I have a very good friend whose mum recently sadly passed away age 42 from cervical cancer (it was a remission- she lived another 2 years before passing)- her daughter 21 is obviously at high risk too.

I think all women should have the injection- regardless of notions of promiscuity or such moral dilemmas or any medical risks for that matter. For me better- alive and sinning than dead and virgin pure.

If it were available now I'd push my friends' sister to the Doctor right now- tie her up if I had to.

What about you- what are your thoughts?
Reply:Without a doubt yes, I would have not lost my mum to it (cervical cancer) when I was 3 years old if it was available then. However tell your friends daughter it is not hereditary.

Thank and same to you I think we have all been "touched" by it and that is why I feel so strongly about preventative measures such as this.
Reply:I would let her have the vaccination. Its no different to the rubella. And good parenting includes educating your children properly and honestly when it comes to all matters sexual. They don't stay babies forever.
Reply:its up to the person if they want it or not. when my daughter gets to that age where she is able to get that vaccine and the doctor ask then i will say yes but i wouldnt take her just to get it
Reply:I am definitely with you! Of course I would try my hardest to teach a daughter to abstain, but I don't want to risk her life for the sake of principle. It's a vaccine for goodness sakes, I don't see why anyone has a problem with it! (With that said, I don't think it should be the law to require it unless the state is willing to subsidize the cost like they do with other required vaccines. They should all be treated the same.)
Reply:I had HPV years ago and had to have a leep procedure done to remove the abnormal cells.

I think if women want to be promiscuous they will regardless of whether or not they have had the vaccination.

I wish they had it when I was a kid, would have saved me time, money, pain and trouble
Reply:i am fully supportive to what you said i had hpv and had to have it surgically removed or at least that what the dr said i have been tested since and have had nothing at all several times tested but i believe the shot would be great....ne thing to prevent never getting it...i had cervcal cancer at 16
Reply:I totally agree with bugaboo. It is a matter of being a responsible parent, and doing it for the sake of your daughter's overall health. If this truly has the ability to prevent cancer, then someone who refuses to give it is in my opinion, a little self righteous and doesn't have their child's best interests at heart.

This vaccine promotes sex no more than condoms and the birth control pill, and kids these days don't have to ask their parents for those items so why not just give the vaccine?
Reply:Absolutely, my daughter will get it. I will teach her enough about sex to know that there are many other diseases she still needs to be careful of. But any chance of preventing a cancer is one I'll definitely go ahead with.
Reply:My answer is-maybe.

I have a daughter that is within the age guidelines for receiving this (although at 9, she is on the younger end of the spectrum). We discussed it with her pediatrician at her well-child checkup, and he agreed with me that it is still too soon to tell what the side effects of this vaccination are.

While I agree that the intent is good, I believe that all of the people pushing for it to be mandatory (many of whom have been paid by the drug's manufacturer) are going too far. I think that more needs to be determined, first. What if we find out that there are side effects from this medication that are not yet known? I do not allow my children to take ANY new medication before I have seen statistics that reassure me of the safety.

It is also important to note that there are many strains of HPV. The vaccine does not protect against all of them. Getting this vaccination does not mean that your daughter will not get cervical cancer. Nor is HPV itself cervical cancer-some STRAINS of the virus COULD cause cancer.

To answer your question again, my daughter (or daughters, since I am currently expecting another one) MIGHT get this vaccination-after we know more about it.
Reply:Promiscuity notwithstanding....what about RAPE??? I firmly believe that girls should be given the shot just for that reason!! And come on... would it really promote sex anymore than your local health dept givin out brown bags????
Reply:don't be convinced that this vaccine could have saved someone you knew who died of cancer. this vaccine does not prevent cancer in all cases. it prevents most kinds of HPV but not all. it seems from the reading i have done that it mostly helps prevent genital warts and some forms of precancerous cells. but just because a person gets this vaccine does not mean they will never get cervical cancer. especially if the cancer is genetic and not from the sexually transmitted disease.

i also think yes if you give kid this vaccine it might make them think they are invincible. i think kids still need to be taught that it is not a cure all.

i am not sure if i want my kids to get it or not.

i guess i will wait until there is further testing and studies.

luckily my daughter are all still quite young.

and yes a person can be predisposed to cervical cancer through heredity.
Reply:my thoughts, i would deff. get the shot for my daughter. having her protected from something that may happen in the long run, would out way promoting sexual behavior. as with the "pill" these options do not tell your child they have your permission to become sexual active, or are ready to have sex.

when talking with your child they should know how you feel about that subject.

Getting the shot for your child would show sexual responsibility, and that you care about her health.
Reply:Though I'm only 22 years old and no where near ready to have children, if I ever do have a daughter, I will give her the injection. I really don't understand how people can think just giving their daughter a shot will make them sluts in their teenage years. It protects from a very serious and prominent virus, why wouldn't you want to protect your daughter? Anyways, it's not like it protects against all the other STI's and sexually derived conditions. Just HPV.
Reply:I think girls should get it, but it should not be manditory by any means!! I would not want my daughter to get it at 13, but more like 16-18 or something a bit older.....But then again if you teach your child morals and values then it wouldnt matter if you gave her the shot....also hpv is a std....you get it by having sex and that just increases your likily hood of getting cancer so if you stay a virgin your chance of dying from cervical cancer is less...not outta the picture, but less...but even if my daughter got the shot at such a young age i would not want her sinning in that way!Plus I want to know if their are any long term effects before hand...and right now the drug is in the early stages and they dont know what the long term effects are....they could be worse then the cancer itself!!
Reply:My children are vaccine free and will remain such. When they get older they can decide on their own if they wish to get any vaccines. I don't really have any thoughts on the issue of possible promiscuity. What I have an issue with is the risks and ingredients. Vaccines are not tested for carcinogenic or mutagenic properties, or effects on fertility. And with ingredients like aluminum, formaldehyde, and phenols, that greatly concerns me.
Reply:I do not agree that the vaccine promotes promiscuity (and am not really sure whay anyone would think that!) and can see that a vaccine such as that would be helpful... but I will NOT be vaccinating my daughters for cervical cancer. The reason why I am not doing that vaccine is just because it is a new vaccine and I do not feel it has been tested thoroughly for long term side effects.
Reply:i would want my kid to have this as its a chance to save their life and the fact that people are saying its going to promote sex in teens i think this is wrong if you bring your children up properly to know that they should wait for the right person who they love and trust then i think teens would more likely wait i waited till i found the right guy ive been with him for a yr and a half so i waited becoz my mum taught me and SPOKE about ooo sex to me that is also a factor in life you need to chat to your children so they know the effects of sex etc then they would wait or even if they didnt wait they might actually use protection xxx
Reply:yup i defo wud,

Reply:I will let my daughter have the vaccination, absolutely. I had a scare a few years ago when I was found to have pre-cancerous cells on my cervix, and my mum had the same thing. If I can protect my daughter from something like that then I will. I don't see how having this injection is going to make girls promiscuous. I find that a bizarre claim personally.
Reply:The arguments of promoting promiscuity are ludicrous. HPV is the cause of 70% of cervical cancers and the vaccine is effective against the two virus strains that cause most cervical cancers. HPV in some form is present in nearly 80% of the sexually active population. It is therefore essential that the vaccine is administered BEFORE the girl becomes sexually active. It is like saying administering a Rubella injection encourages girls to get pregnant. One reason the vaccine should be administered early is that older women (even late teens) who are already sexually active may assume that the vaccine protects them and fail to have smears.

I was 20 and had had 1 partner, now my husband, when I was first treated for abnormal cells. I have recently been informed that I, once again, have severe changes to the cells. However as I am pregnant I have to wait until next year before these can be investigated. I would not hesitate to vaccinate my daughter.
Reply:Certainly !
Reply:Ideally 12-13 years old however you can still receive it into your 20's. I would rather my daughter have a chance to live and be promiscuous than more suceptible to a strain (a few strains) that can cause cervicle cancer.

No it doesn't defeat all types of HPV, every parent is told so when they question their doctors regarding it. I would rather rule out most than none at all.

As for sexual promiscuity, that's like saying having condoms at school will promote it..well..what about at the market down the road or the doctors office? They will have sex when they have sex, its' our jobs as parents to ask them to wait and to inform them at the very least how NOT to say "mom I'm pregnant" before it should ever happen.
Reply:Yes....despite the "promoting promiscuity". It would be much better than having them die from such a horrible disease. Some argue that birth control and condoms promote promiscuity, but we still have those things and encourage young people to use them.
Reply:If it wasn't a mandatory vaccine in my state I would get my daughter vaccinated anyway. There is a high occurrence of cervical cancer in my family and also in my husbands so our daughter is at a high risk for it. My mother and sister both had cervical cancer, now in remission. If you could possible prevent your child from contracting a type of cancer then why wouldn't a parent do this? In fact i am getting the vaccine after talking to my doctor. The cut off age for the vaccine is 26 years old. My daughter will be vaccinated against HPV when shes 11 years old.
Reply:yes
Reply:In a heartbeat.

Having had cervical cancer myself I don't want any woman to have to go through it if it can be prevented and now thanks to this vaccine it can. My daughters, my nieces and friends daughters will all be getting it.

Checkout www.jotrust.co.uk and go to the lets meet page and you'll see just how cervical cancer affects peoples lives. This is a website dedicated to women and their families offering advice and support for anything to do with pre cancerous changes of the cervix to cancer itself.

There is also lots of information on there on all aspects of this virus and disease

Would you allow your daughter to be given the anti-cervical cancer injection?

34>This vaccine is controversial because it is designed to be given to girls before they become sexually active, ideally around 12-13 yrs age.

Some critics have argued that vaccinating against HPV might promote sexual promiscuity.

What about you- what are your thoughts?
Reply:my thoughts are the manufacturers of this vaccine are in to gain a butt-load of cash from it.

i would not let my daughter (if I had one) get it until long term studies had been done on it
Reply:my mom WANTS me to get the shot
Reply:I work in health care and I'd give my children ANYTHING that would help to protect them.

News flash...There's not one thing out there that needs to promote sexual promiscuity for young people because you know what?

They are going to do it anyway!
Reply:Yes, l'll allow my daughters to have the vaccine. l see nothing wrong with it. By the way, my mom has cervical cancer. Better be safe than sorry.
Reply:Giving someone a shot in no way promotes promiscuity, that notion is absurd. If the vaccine could save my child's life I would welcome it.
Reply:HPV has been shown to be fully responsible for cervical cancer so to not have the jab would be an insanity. We are vaccinated as kids against polio, MMR etc.etc. so why not against a killer such as cervical cancer. I fully agree with you.
Reply:I agree with you. If a girl is a good girl, i doubt a vaccination is going to change her mind.

My friend Catherine's mum put her on "the pill" and she is 14! She is a virgin, and she has turned down, like, three guys! I doubt she is all of a sudden start seeping around with guys. That is promoting sexual promiscuity.鈾||yes as a dad i don't want my daughters to have sex to early but by the same token i don't want them to die of cancer neither
Reply:I'd most defiantly give my daughter the shot. I don't think the shot has anything to do with promiscuity. If you teach your children morals and such it shouldn't be a problem. I was on birth control before I lost my virginity and I wasn't promiscuous because my mother instilled values in her children. Besides....kids are going to have sex...just teach them how to be safe about it. I'd rather have my daugher have safe sex and maybe be a little promiscous (not when she's 12 or 13..more like 30. lol)than see her go through cervical cancer or cancer of any kind.
Reply:I don't have any kids yet, but I decided the second I heard about it that if I ever had a daughter, I would have her butt gettin that shot ASAP....anything you can do to prevent having to deal with life threatening diseases should be done and I don't get someone who would not offer their child that protection if it was offered.

I think if you teach your child that it is wrong to be sexually promiscuous (and I do think it is) and continually remind your kids of the dangers of sleeping around, not to mention knowing what your kids are up to like a good parent should (and like my mom did!) then things should work out, but kids aren't perfect and slip up and if you can make their life easier I think that you should.

I feel the same way about the absitinence only education thing, thats ridiculous, as much as we would like it, lots of kids are gonna have sex, if not in high school later on and these kids need to know how to protect themselves if they do fall into the sex trap. Not teaching them and when they try it out and get STD's and Pregnant cuz they didnt know is gonna do far less good than letting them know what they can do to help! Its a parents responsibility to have kids prepared for everything, not just what you want them to do!
Reply:My wife went through surgery twice and then had a hysterectomy, I have a 9 yr old daughter and I will be at the front of the queue if it stops her from feeling the pain we all have suffered.

p.s my wife was not promiscuous, and through education and love I hope my daughter will also learn to value herself.
Reply:I've had the shots.. When I have kids I'll want my daughter(s) to get them too. I'll make sure they know their morals, though, so the thought of promiscuity won't even cross their mind after getting the shots.
Reply:yes my daughter had the shots .........anything to help protect her against cancer(shes 13)Its not going to make any one promiscuous .......
Reply:I really don't know and this is my reason for not being able to give you a straight answer. My 2nd child was born with perfect hearing by the age of 2 1/2 I discovered myself that she couldnt hear. It is not known how this occurred but in the back of my mind I wonder about the mmr injection. So therefore I would be reluctant to have her injected with a new drug.
Reply:Yes, I would want my daughter to get vaccinated as my mother in law died of cervical cancer a few years ago.
Reply:I think that every parent has a responsibility to protect their child. It is a fabulous idea to vaccinate every girl at that age before they become sexually active. I dont agree that it will aid sexual promiscuity probably make them more aware of the risks of having sex. If I had a girl of that age I would not hesitate to have it done.
Reply:I personally think this vaccination is a God send, people are always sceptical about new drugs, but if it saves one life it is worth it. As for me, well my daughters are well brought up. Promiscuity rests with a decent moral up-bringing, something that seems to be lacking in today's Britain

Anti-prespirant causes breast cancer?

33>I just got a fowarded email that said that Anti-prespirant causes breast cancer because it stops our body from getting rid of toxins etc. etc. There was no source listed, and therefore I want to know if anyone ever heard of something like that and if it's from a reliable source or it's just some bs that these nuts spread when they're bored. Thanks.
Reply:I have been working in the cancer field for almost ten years now. I have heard a lot of myths or rumors, and this is yet another one. There is nothing scientifically shown nor is there any data driven studies done that have proved aluminum or anything in deodorants to cause cancer, let alone breast cancer.

We all have to remember that in order for a product to be placed on the market, it must first undergo rigorous testing and then FDA approval. That being said, there is no mechanism in any of the ingredients in deodorants that can cause cellular damage.

In order for cancer to form, there has to be a mechanism that causes a cellular change, or a mutation. It has to turn off the cells control center for dividing. There is nothing, including aluminum phosphates in deodorant that can lead to this change in a cells structure.

If you develop a rash under your arm, you may be allergic to one of the ingredients, but it still will not cause or lead to cancer.
Reply:It may be true.

Why not use a perfume instead and play safe.
Reply:No, it's the aluminium content that can give you breast cancer. I buy a nice deodorant from an organic shop. Not only is it aluminium free, but it has real essential oils instead of fake fragrences. It's so much nicer than the stuff I used to buy from the supermarket!
Reply:I'm a breast cancer survivor and I have never heard this one. I don't believe it is true.
Reply:There are so many things now a days that "may" cause cancer that we should all lock ourselves up in bubbles and stop living. The problem with cancer is that we don't understand it as well as we would like, so we often find fanatical ideas to explain it. Just like the Greeks did when they invented the stories of their gods to explain why it rains. We, as people, hate not understanding anything. You could get into a car accident tomorrow and die just as easily as you could end up with cancer. Don't live for what ifs, live for today!
Reply:The email you received is considered a hoax, however it is an effective hoax because it is based on something that is 'undetermined'. You can read about this Urban Legend at snopes and the American Cancer Society. What is important to remember is that the email is not based on documented scientific evidence . . the email you received is a hoax to play on your fear that this might be true. Someone is getting a good laugh at people by sending this out.

How many moles of carbon atoms are contained in 0.5 moles of the anti-cancer drug methotrexate (C20H22N8O5)?

32>Easy one. One. Remember the definition of a mole is 6.023x10to 23 molesules of a substance. For this molecule there are 2 Carbon atoms each. .5moles/molecule x 2 atoms/molecule=1 mole.
Reply:There's something that gives you all the answer to all the questions you seek. It's called a textbook. Stop wasting people's time and study harder!
Reply:Carbon is monatomic so 20 moles of C per mole of methotrexate.

Should be easy from here.

I want to know a bout nano drug & drug delivery system, esp. about anti cancer drug.Is there anyone could help?

31>Generally all nanotech drug delivery systems work by microencapsulating drugs/poisons in vesicles. The previous reply is correct in saying that certain receptors can then activate the decomposition of said vesicle and the delivery of the drug. However, also there is research currently being undertaken where it is not just the enemy virus/cell which is sought out, but also the chemicals produced by certain illnesses, for example cancer. Therefore a nanofabricated drug 'capsule' can be made to release its contents when it is in an area of high concentration of a certain illnesses byproduct. This has increased the range of diseases which can be attacked. In particular HIV where the receptors on the outside of the cell undergo mutations depending on the strain and point of lifecycle. Fascinating!
Reply:one system i have heard about that was being developed in Imperial college london is where they take the section of the antibody that recognizes the antigens which are displayd on the exterior of cancer cells. to this they add a bacteria which converts a certain sugar to cyanide, and then they add the sugar to the bloodstream. the sugar then diffuses harmlessly around the body, until it finds the bacteria, which are now attached to cancerous cells, and so the cyanide is delivered to the cancerous cells more effectively, killing them, and causing minimal damage to neighbouring, healthy cells.

Is it true that ground Turmeric (spice used in currys) has anti cancer agents in it?

29>Yes.

Besides, Turmeric is a great cure for many internal injuries . Is used widely in India.

In Ayurvedic medicine, turmeric is thought to have many healthful properties and many in India use it as a readily available antiseptic for cuts and burns. It is taken in some Asian countries as a dietary supplement, which allegedly helps with stomach problems and other ailments. It is popular as a tea in Okinawa, Japan. It is currently being investigated for possible benefits in Alzheimer's disease, cancer and liver disorders.

The medicinal properties of the turmeric have for millennia been known to the ancient Indians and have been expounded in the Ayurvedic texts. It is only in recent years that Western scientists have increasingly recognised the medicinal properties of turmeric. According to a 2005 article in the Wall Street Journal titled, "Common Indian Spice Stirs Hope," research activity into curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, is exploding. Two hundred and fifty-six curcumin papers were published in the past year according to a search of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. Supplement sales have increased 35% from 2004, and the U.S. National Institutes of Health has four clinical trials underway to study curcumin treatment for pancreatic cancer, multiple myeloma, Alzheimer's, and colorectal cancer.

Investigations into the low incidence of colorectal cancer amongst ethnic groups with a large intake of curries compared with the indigenous population have suggested that some active ingredients of turmeric may have anti-cancer properties.

Anti-tumoral effects against melanoma cells have been demonstrated [2].

Second-stage trials of a turmeric-based drug as a possible treatment for cancer are currently underway. However, according to recent research results [3], the component curcumin causes degradation of the human protein p53. p53 is responsible for removing damaged cells that are likely to become tumors, suggesting curcumin could accelerate tumor development.

A recent study involving mice has shown that turmeric slows the spread of breast cancer into lungs and other body parts. Turmeric also enhances the effect of taxol in reducing metastasis of breast cancer

Japanese and Southern Europeans have much lower rates of all types of cancers, but when they move to the US their rates increase.

Obviously, your lifestyle and diet is a major contributor.

Stay away from processed crap and high meat diets.
Reply:Watercress is proven to help, although it tastes like pond weed lol.

I would suggest that making sure food is not burnt/charred is probably as important as what types of food are consumed. Burning food creates carbons which promote cancerous cells forming in the body.
Reply:The Food ad Drug Administration recommends eating cabbage or Brussels sprouts 3 times a week to prevent colon cancer.
Reply:Watercress I've heard of before for its cancer preventing properties. But avoid excessive alcohol and red meat intake.

Anti persperant = brest cancer?

25>is it true that if you put anti perserant on RIGHT after you shave your [armpits] that it causes breast cancer? this sounds totally crazy to me but my friend believes it [ cause my dumb teacher told them ] and im still wondering if theres any possibilty??
Reply:It's an urban legend. Not true.

I had breast cancer and someone told me I probably got it from that. I researched it and there's no medical basis for that. What they are talking about is the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate content. Rumor was, that was a carcinogen. But the thing is, anything in excess can be bad for you, just like eating too much food, drinking too much alcohol, or doing drugs, etc. My doctor told me as long as I don't plan on eating anything with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate in it, it won't be a problem. (It is in toothpaste, but you spit that out.) It's almost impossible to stay away from the compound, take a look in your bathroom, it's in everything, not just antipersperant. (But they could also be talking about the aluminum content too, hard to say, but the rumor is false either way) Here is a think about Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and cancer. It has a link to other things, like the OSHA info and an MSDS.

Hope that helps.
Reply:No this is not true
Reply:no it's not true and if a teacher really is telling students this someone should tell the head of the school this teacher works at because this sort of information could really hurt or damage a person young or old who has family going through breast cancer - my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer three and a half years ago and although i was 33 at the time if i'd heard this coming from a teacher even though i know it's not true i would have gone mad and made a complaint to the head immediately!

What is the major of chemotherapy agents in anti-cancer drugs ?

24>Google often gets you people's 'guesses'.

The treatment often varies depending on the type of tumor that is being treated and the suitability of the person to the medication. There are hundreds of options and a list would be pointless.

Broadly, they can be split down into;

*Antimetabolites - these drugs prevent the formation of biomolecular components required for DNA replication and so stop cells dividing

*Alkylating agents (old) - add alkyl groups to many electronegative groups under conditions present in cells. This stops cell division by directly attacking the DNA.

*Genotoxics - Directly damage DNA and prevent cell division.

*Spindle Inhibitors - Prevent the spindle, a part of mitosis, forming, thus preventing cell division.

*Others - (usually, method of action, not clear)

Try looking at;

Reply:why not ask google or other search engines and get a correct answer other then someone guessing!
Reply:There are different kinds of chemotherapy drugs with different agents in them, but there whole purpose is to stop cancer cells from dividing and duplicating. You can check for the exact agents in these individual drugs:

What are the latest used herbal drugs for anti cancer activity?

23>include those under research also.. cite sources please
Reply:Perrywinkle is a good example. This plant is used to make vinblastine which has greatly raised the cure rate for Hodgkin's disease and other cancers. Taxol was another example but taxane drugs are now made synthetically and not from yew tree bark.

Do not confuse these medicines that are derived from plants and have a scientifically proven track record for treating cancer with the many herbs sold to treat cancer for which there has been no scientific testing and which possess no proven anti-cancer activity. Just hoping and saying something cures cancer does not make it so.

Reply:Any healthy foods are good. - Try Vitamin C therapy. A few years ago a cancer specialist came out with a paper that said the best cancer/infection fighter found to date was Interferon. At the time it was $15,000 a gram. The paper also said that Interferon was a by-product of the natural breakdown of Vitamin C in your body. Shortly after that the FDA tried to make Vitamin C by prescription only. Guess why? The FDA has the RDA for Vitamin C set at 64 mg a day, just enough to ward off scurvy. Linus Pauling, who got a Nobel Prize for his work with Vitamin C and a second Nobel Prize for Organic Chemistry, said that 1000 mg a day should be the minimum and 2000 mg a day if you are sick or smoke. He played tennis almost daily until the day he died at 96. Personally, I got sick twice a year for 2 weeks at a time, for more than 20 years, with something to this day the doctors have no idea what it was, but for a week in the middle of those 2 weeks I was flat on my back. I started Vitamin C therapy once I gave up on the doctors. I took enough to be asymptomatic for those 2 weeks. Too much and I got diarrhea and too little and I got sick. Within a narrow range, and it followed a bell curve over those 2 weeks, I was not sick. At the height I was taking 40,000 mg a day and 300,000 over the 2 weeks. After 2 years of that I have not been sick since 鈥?more than 15 years. Vitamin C acts as a natural diuretic so you need to drink a lot of water and watch your body in total, but my kidneys did not dissolve as the doctors predicted, or get massive kidney stones as other predicted. I did not dissolve my bones as some predicted or completely calcify my joints as others predicted. I had no side effects at all. It might be something to consider.

What is the problem with a potential anti-cancer substance found in a Borneo shrub?

20>A promising anti-cancer substance has been found in a Borneo shrub by researchers for an Australian pharmaceutical firm, while a chemical found in latex produced by a tree appears to be effective against the replication of HIV.

422 new plant species had been discovered in Borneo - shared by Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei - in the last 25 years and many others were believed to be there which could have medicinal applications.

But all these promising discoveries could eventually be lost if the disappearing rainforests of the heart of Borneo are not adequately protected.

More forest destruction could well deny science the opportunity to discover and develop further potential sources of life-saving medication.
Reply:It seems like you know more about it than any of us... you tell us.
Reply:If this is the same compound I read about, it is useful in treating certain types of skin cancer only- but in a remarkable amount of time and w/ great ease. I believe the previous post is right on when they state that w/out the proper protection and/or cultivation of these unique species of plants science and medicine will lose out on many potential compounds that may help all of us. It is unlikely, but I do hope that the pursuit of a profit does not do away with the hope that so many people suffering from debilitating illnesses need these days. Lets all pray that through God's mercy that's not the case. Peace.

Onion contain antibiotic used as anti cancer -what is its name? -its structural formula ?

17>more about its medical use%26amp; how one can extract this antibiotic from onion?
Reply:Onions are still considered a modern day preventative. Sweet Onions are a member of the 500-plus allium family. While garlic, another allium, has been highly touted as a cancer preventative, most people consume far greater quantities of Onions. As Americans search for low-fat, low-salt, but tasty meals, they're eating more Onions - almost 18 pounds per person per year, which is 50% more than a decade ago. There is great confidence that the Onion will be a key in producing long-term health benefits. In addition to tasting great, Onions contain 25 active compounds that appear to inhibit the growth of cancerous cells, help combat heart disease, inhibit strokes, lower blood pressure %26amp; cholesterol, and stimulate the immune system. Alliums are also antibacterial and anti-fungal, so they can help ward off colds, and relieve stomach upset %26amp; other gastrointestinal disorders. What makes them so good for you? Of all the healthy compounds contained in Onions, two stand out: sulfur and quercetin - both being strong antioxidants. They each have been shown to help neutralize the free radicals in the body, and protect the membranes of the body's cells from damage. Quercetin is also found in red wine and tea, but in much lower quantities. Interestingly, white Onions contain very little quercetin, so it's better to stick with the yellow and red varieties. Most health professionals recommend eating raw Onions for maximum benefit, but cooking makes them more versatile and doesn't significantly reduce their
Reply:it's not antibiotic :P. antibiotics only kill bacteria, while cancer is caused by cancer cells. Onions contain antioxidants........lots of it. This is the substance that prevents (or reduce, actually) the likelihood of cancer. so eat up

What is the difference between anti-cancer drugs and chemotherapy? are the complications same in both cases?

16>There are numerous anti cancer drugs that are not considered chemotherapy. Tamoxifen is one example. An anti-hormone type drug like tamoxifen would have less side effects than most chemotherapy drugs but that is not to say there are no side effects, because all drugs potentially have side effects.

Reply:Chemotherapy is one type of anti-cancer drug.

And no, the side effects are not the same. A lot of anti-cancer drugs do not cause nausea, or low white blood cell counts, or anemia.

Can you get Essiac an Anti-cancer treatment in the U.K?

15>I think you should order it on http://www.essiac-herbal.com/ or some other website that sells Essiac. I don't know if it is available in the UK, you should google it, but even if the firm is located in the US, you can still pay by Paypal, Western Union ot the like and shipping is easy, you will receive the package in a week. I haven't heard of the treatment you are looking for, but you should check out cesium-chloride too, that is said to be he most effective (though many doctors conceal its existence). Anyway, good luck and get better.

What are the recommended anti cancer vitamins?

12>eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Thats the only way to get it before it starts. Other then that, there are medicines that work very well that are not accepted the the medical field. They are all over the internet. Just look them up. CESIUM CHLORIDE, GREEN ALGAE, OXYGEN DROPS, PAW PAW, etc etc. It has been tested and proven that oxygen drops cause a difficult environment for cancer to grow. But why hasnt it been accepted by the medical professionals? Because it doesnt make money for them. So, you can theoretically take oxygen drops every day to keep from getting cancer. Its jut a drop that makes your body take in more oxygen. Nothing toxic and no chemicals about it. The thing is, it might make you have diarrhea or something like that for the first week. After that you should be fine. Chemo is the worse cancer treatment...You die 5 years later anyways. And thats if you are lucky because once you get chemo therapy, the chemo destroys your body and deteriorates your health. What do you have to live on after that? You werent sunburned, you were microwaved. So, fresh fruits and vegetables are okay. Oxygen drops if you think you might have cancer. And all the other medicines if you do get diagnosed with cancer. These medicines beat cancer by as much as 90% even in 3rd stage cancers so do look them up if you need to.
Reply:If you are worried about cancer you should take the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of your antioxidants. Examples of antioxidants include beta-carotene, lycopene, vitamins C, E, and A, and other substances. Antioxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Free radical damage may lead to cancer. Antioxidants interact with and stabilize free radicals and may prevent some of the damage free radicals otherwise might cause. Go to the link below for more detailed information on antioxidants.

What is an anti-cancer molecule?

10>It is a very generic term. Generally, it is considered an anti-cancer drug, a drug which interferes (somehow) with the cellular growth and proliferation. This mostly involves blocking the cell cycle, which leads to cell division, and artificially creating "damage" to the tumor cells inorder to activate cell cycle checkpoints, which arrest the progression through the cycle (by inhibiting DNA replication and mitosis). Therefore, good examples of anti-cancer drugs are all molecules which interfere with the replication machinery, such as cyclosporin or etoposide, or with the mitotic machinery, such as nocodazole and colchicine.

The problem is that these molecules are not specific and are normally given sistemically, thus affecting all replicating cells, such as the cells of the intestinal mucosa, cells of the epidermis and of the hair follicules. This is why people that undergo sessions of chemotherapy are often sick and loose their hair.

Is chocolate having anti cancer properties?

Of course too much of it might not be good for other aspects of health. I have heard "Everything in moderation... including moderation." Seems like a good motto.

Vincristine is an anti cancer drug that works by proventing microtubules from disassembling.?

8>How does this property make it a good drug?
Reply:It's actually the opposite. Vincristine prevents ASSEMBLY of microtubules, thereby inhibiting the mitotic process of cells.

The basis behind a majority of chemotherapy drugs is to limit the growth of all rapidly dividing cells which includes cancer cells. Microtubule formation is essential for mitotic replication, and so the prevention of microtubule formation equates the inhibition of cancer cell proliferation...But it also leads to a lot of negative side-effects.
Reply:That means, keeps the live tissue intact %26amp; doesn't alow the cancer 2 penetrate the cells.
Reply:See Jason's answer. It is very good and accurate.

Vincristine, and its other related cousins, work by preventing microtubule assembly. Paclitaxel and docetaxel prevent microtubule disassembly. Either way, inhibition of the microtubule apparatus serves to inhibit chromosomal separation and movement of molecules within the cytoplasm.

It does have toxicities, however. Principally these are neurologically-related: constipation, hand/foot sensory toxicity (tingling, numbness, etc.), and foot drop.

Does carboplatin (anti-cancer drug) exhibit geometrical isomerism?

7>The structure of carboplatin can be found at the website listed below. Since carboplatin has a bidentate ligand (C6H6O4) it is unable to undergo geometric isomerization. The answer to your question is NO.

How do anti-cancer drugs work? And how do they affect the cells' cycle??

6>depends which ones

How do anti-cancer drugs work? And how do they affect the cells' cycle??

5>Are you asking about chemotherapy? Different chemo drugs work in different ways. Some kill cells that replicate rapidly: because compared to most normal cells, cancer cells replicate rapidly. Some chemo drugs choke off the blood supply to tumors. Some targeted drugs bind to tumor cells to prevent them from replicating. There are probably more ways they work than that ... did you look on Wikipedia under "chemotherapy"?
Reply:I agree with the previous respondent that different chemo drugs work differently. The vast majority of older agents (still in widespread use) act against DNA. There are a variety of different ways they act, but the end result is that the cancer cell recognizes that its DNA is abnormal and destroys itself. These drugs work against any rapidly dividing cells (the idea being that DNA is more actively in use in a rapidly dividing cell). This makes sense when you consider that cancer, by definition, is a disease of rapidly dividing cells. Unfortunately, your body has lots of normal cells that divide rapidly, too, like hair, the cells lining your gut, and blood cells. This explains side effects like hair loss, mouth sores, and low blood counts, because even these good cells are destroyed by the chemo.

Newer chemo drugs may be targeted against a specific type of tumor and so, theoretically, is less toxic to the body's normal cells. The problem is that every type of tumor is so different, and it's nearly impossible to come up with a magic bullet for each one. Researchers are working hard in that direction, though.
