279>Ok...Both my mom and my dad smoke...It%26#039;s only the three of us, and I%26#039;ve tried everything to get them to stop. They said When my grandmother stops, they will, but she died from lung cancer, so they didn%26#039;t stop. I%26#039;ve joined Raze, a local anti-tobacco group at school, they said they support it fully, but won%26#039;t stop, i%26#039;ve tried threats, convincing, but all I get is %26quot;When things calm down we%26#039;ll talk about it%26quot; I%26#039;ve heard that same line for 2 years as of today...I%26#039;ve even tried hunger strikes, fighting with them, and running away, I%26#039;ve lost 3 people to smoking, I don%26#039;t want to lose them too! Please help, anyone, please!!!
Reply:I really appreciate that you advise them and you encourage them to quite, actually the situation supposed to be the opposite.
I think you can try to stay out and do not go home and tell them that in this way you are protecting yourself from the negative smoking which is worse than the real smoking, and ask them to quite for you sake not for their health, if they ignore what you do, then try to find another place to live with your own protecting your health and tell them that they have decided to live with some smokes instead living with you, so do not feel guilty but they can choose between you or smoking, not because they destroy their health but also they affect you.
Reply:i would start asking them where they would like to be burried? Or have they thought about a will yet? Tell them that your grandmother might not have %26quot;stopped%26quot; smoking on her own, but that is because the smoking stopped her before she could. Explain to them that they are not only killing themselve but you ask well. Second hand smoke is just and damaging. We all will die eventually, but i%26#039;d rather die of natural causes, not from a slow suicide. Drugs, alcohol, over eating and getting high cholesterol and diabetes and such, its all things like that, most of use could avoid if we took better care of ourselves, since we don%26#039;t, we are all volentarily killing ourselves and cutting many years off our lives.
Reply:They have the right under the law to self destruct,. Love them how they are and how they are not....go live elsewhere smoke free for your own health whether or not they understand, approve, like it, desire it., whatever...
Reply:Well it%26#039;s great that you are actively trying to get your parents to stop smoking. But unfortunately, they won%26#039;t quit until they decide they want to quit. For themselves. And they have to really want it. Smoking is the hardest thing in the world to quit. Keep asking them to quit, and keep letting them know how much it bothers you. But until they are in the right frame of mind to do so, they will probably not quit. Hopefully they%26#039;ll come around soon.
Reply:Ask them if they have life insurance, and if their affairs are in order. Tell them how you feel about losing ur grandma and want to be prepared with them. sadly if the death of ur grandma didn%26#039;t get them to stop. you know their hooked. But Keep trying and ask for help. also do an estimate on how much money they%26#039;ve been spending... good luck
Reply:I%26#039;m sorry but there%26#039;s nothing more that you can do. It%26#039;s a similar situation as if your parents were alcoholics: threats, dumping out the booze, begging and bargaining don%26#039;t work. They can quit only when they are ready to quit. Just try to learn from their mistakes and continue to do well. The best way to help them is to %26quot;win them over without a word%26quot; by your good example.
Reply:inform them that they are putting your health at great risk
jack their cigarettes
ask a school counsalor
A future quote of you %26quot;you know, you%26#039;re just scared aren%26#039;t you. You don%26#039;t know how to stop. You don%26#039;t know, wait thats not right, you know, you just don%26#039;t care that you are putting yourselves and me in danger of lung cancer (among other things). Just quit already! Go get help from rehab or something and just quit!%26quot;

Reply:sweetheart they are not going to stop with the pranks u r pulling because their stress level is so high. the best way is to incourage the benefites is to just be there and not nag them because i smoke and the more people fuss the more i smoke. enjoy them while they are there because i have known people that never smoked and died of lung cancer and never smoked a day in thier life. you just have to love them while you have them.
