My boyfriend told me he has lung cancer... what do I do?

147>I am 15 years old. My boyfriend is 16. He has lung cancer. I%26#039;ve tried to convince him to stop smoking and he%26#039;s told me he%26#039;s going to try but he%26#039;s not going to stop smoking pot. I care about him alot and it hurts me. I smoke too. Is it selfish for me to ask of him to quit? My veiw on the situation is I%26#039;m not quiting till he quits. I feel ******. I don%26#039;t know what to do cause I%26#039;m woried all the time. I doubt he%26#039;ll ever stop smoking pot, not that I%26#039;m an anti-drug finatic -I smoke too- I just really care about him and I need suggestions on what to do and how to help, and what I should do %26amp; should I try to help at all?
Reply:ok first off...your 15 and he%26#039;s 16 and you both smoke? yea thats your first mistake..its bad to smoke at 30 much less 15 when your lungs arent near as strong..first you gotta stop smoking..are you selfish to ask him to and for you to keep doing it..YES..as long as you do, he%26#039;s going too..As for what you can do..Nothing really..Just be there for him..Lung cancer is a tough and usually unpleasent thing..But its not necessarily an immediate death sentance..Just be there and be supportive..AND STOP SMOKING..STOP SMOKING EVERYTHING
Reply:Sweet heart,

You just need to stay by his side. Lung cancer is dangerous. If you stop smoking it might convince him to. It could make a world of difference.
Reply:Well, you smoking too is not helping, that%26#039;s for sure. He maybe thinking the same thing as you have, that he%26#039;ll quit once you quit. Be with him, when he needs you. Fighting cancer is painful and tiring but its not hopeless. Seek other people who can help.
Reply:Get evidence before you completely buy this story. The average age onset of lung cancer is age 60 and under age 40 is unusual. I am not saying this is completely impossible, but it ranks up there with the odds of winning the lottery and being hit by a meteorite in the same day.

Lung cancer in most instances is a disease of toxic exposures over many years. You barely are old enough to have even done enough damage to your lungs to be at a measurable risk (like if you started smoking at age 6, then maybe).

Clearly I am not endorsing your smoking and your smoking unfiltered marijuana either. Now is the time to quit before you look back and realize you%26#039;ve been smoking for 10, 20, 30 years, then I hear, %26quot;I%26#039;ve been doing it for 30 years how do you expect me to stop?%26quot; Stop now, enourage you boyfriend to stop now.

nfortunately smoking often doesn%26#039;t kill you directly, it causes enough damage to make your life miserable. If you need more motivation then take a look at that older person with the oxygen tank riding in the motorized cart at the supermarket. Chances are, that person smoked.
Reply:Ditto the last answer. 16 year olds very very rarely get lung cancer. I think he is telling you a story. It doesn%26#039;t add up.
Reply:I think he lied to you. Lung cancer is extremely uncommon at your age. If it really occurs in him, it is not because of smoking. It is because of bad luck. You%26#039;d better check with him what is going on.
