152>Combined with Valium, Elavil, Neurontin, high blood pressure medicine (Tarka), Colace %26amp; previously taken anti-depressants such as Cymbalta and Wellbutrin--- wouldn%26#039;t 205 mgs. of Oxycodone be considered %26quot;too much%26quot; for a 45 yr. old male who is only experiencing shoulder %26amp; knee joint pain? No cancer or surgery, just pain from joints (scheduled for, but not had joint replacement surgery). Wouldn%26#039;t this amount of Oxycodone per day cause a fatal overdose?
Reply:Damn - who%26#039;s your doctor - I need to go to him. Yes 205mg of perocet is a lot but the real problem is mixing it with the valium and other anti-depressant. I would be worried I would go into a drug coma and stop breathing. Be very careful with these mixes.
Reply:First off, even with someone who has been prescribed Oxycodone, mixing with all of that can be very dangerous. Oxycodone is also very habit forming, and to much can cause serious breathing complications or worse. NOBODY should be taking a narcotic like this unless it is prescribed to them, with all other meds and physical conditions taken into consideration. Inform this man, that the best thing for joint pain would be a pain releiver/anti-inflamatory. Strat with 800mg Ibuprofren every 6 hours, if that isn%26#039;t working, then go to the DR.!
Reply:First of all and this is comming from a person who was totally crushed in a car accident in 2004..how long have you been taking all this Oxycodone..If you just started taking it STOP because no good can come of this. The chances of overdose are not high but the real problem you are going to face is ADDICTION my friend.OXYCODONE is very addictive and you%26#039;ll soon notice that 204mlg per day is not enough and that will go up and up and up.and eventually your doctor will start to give you hard time because your at his office every second week needing more..and then when you don%26#039;t have anymore you will go through a withdrawl week from hell.PLEASE do yourself a favor and be strong live with the pain ..like i%26#039;m doing now.and i need a new knee and new hips and a new elbow. If you have to take medication for pain try Lyrica it%26#039;s a neuroblocker .it stops the pain receptors in the brain from being activated and in turn you don%26#039;t feel the pain in your joints ..and your not taking high levels of opiotes that are eating away at your liver and stopping you from being able to go to the bathroom..unless you take MORE medication just to be able to poop..NOTHING GOOD CAN COME FROM PAIN PILLS..take it from me who has been there.good luck my friend and god help you.
Reply:I%26#039;m familiar with Oxycodone, Neurontin, Cymbalta and Wellbutrin. The amount of Oxycodone shouldn%26#039;t present any problem. If 205 Mg is a starting off amount, its a fair amount, but if the pain is high, its reasonable. Colace or (alternative Miralax) is usually needed with Oxycodone type drugs.
Good luck with your surgery. You are pretty young for replacement, but it sounds like it certainly is needed.
Reply:It depends on the person and their tolerance. For an opiate naive person, yes, it would be. But for a chronic pain patient it could be just enough. I%26#039;m a 26 year old female, who weighs 150 pounds, and I take 120 mgs of Oxycodone a day--80 mgs extended release and 40 mgs immediate release-- plus 2 mgs of Ativan at bedtime every day and I add around 200 micrograms of immediate release Fentanyl approximately 3 times a week as needed.
Joint pain can be extremely debilitating. You can%26#039;t judge what is too much pain medication based on the fact that the patient %26quot;just%26quot; has joint pain. Everyone%26#039;s pain tolerance is different. My husband takes the same amount of Oxycodone as me-- 80 mgs extended release, 40 mgs immediate release-- every day for pain in his knee. He is 28 and weighs 165 lbs. and has also had 2 seperate nerve blocks in the knee. His pain is still severe enough that he needs his medication and he still has pain at a level of about a 2 or 3 sometimes. You can%26#039;t judge how much pain medication a person needs based on where the pain is. You CERTAINLY can%26#039;t judge how much pain they%26#039;re having just because they don%26#039;t have cancer. Neither I nor my husband has cancer either. Extremely severe, debilitating pain can come from other sources than cancer. It%26#039;s up to the doctor. Clearly the patient is being followed by a doctor, and he or she is the ONLY one who should judge if the person is taking too much medication. It%26#039;s disrespectful and rude to judge a patient%26#039;s pain medication intake when you are not a doctor. Pain in and of itself can be a disease, and it can be as debilitating-- and as fatal-- as cancer. Also, addiction is a behavior issue, characterized by compulsively drug seeking and continuing to take the medication when it is not needed or when it has caused negative conssequences for the patient or his friends and family. Dependance occurs when you take a medication for an extended period of time, and it occurs with pretty much ANY medication. A diabetic depends on insulin for their diabetes, but are THEY called addicts? Of course not. A pain patient is doing the same thing, and we are judged and called junkies just for taking medication to treat out condition. This type of discrimination by people who do not understand what it is to need medication just to be able to do normal, every day things is disgusting and unfair.
Reply:I take 20 mg Oxycodone every 4 hours as needed, for chronic pain and I just recently had my second kidney surgery this week, I don%26#039;t think 205 mgs is too much, if you feel bad side effects from it, it is possible it is too much. I would talk to your doctor and not ask anyone on here since only your doctor can give you professional advice and none of us are doctors. but if your pain is controlled and you are comfortable I would see no problem with taking that much as long as your doctor says it is safe..I was switched over from Percocet that has Tylenol because of liver toxicity, the only thing my doctor warned me about with higher doses is breathing problems, addiction, constipation, dizziness, nausea, and being more drowsy.
Reply:It all depends on your tolerance. If you have never taken opiate analgesics before then 205 mg could make you overdose, even if taken over the length of a day. If you%26#039;ve been taking opiates long enough, then 205 mg might not give you any relief. This really isn%26#039;t for you to decide, the doctor should make any decisions like that. You%26#039;re doctor should know about your history of medication before he prescribes you anything as powerful as oxycodone hydrochloride. Even if that amount didn%26#039;t kill you, it would not be a very pleasant day for you. You would be horribly tired and you would deff puke the first couple of times.
As far as the drug interactions, the valium and the oxycodone both depress the respiratory system and when given in high doses could cause respiratory failure. As far as the other drugs, I wouldn%26#039;t feel comfortable giving you advice because i%26#039;m not experienced in those. But if your doctor perscribed all of this to be taken together then it should be safe. But double check with your doctor first.
