Could it be colon cancer??

103>My doctor diagnosed me with either Crohn's or ulcerative colitis. He told me to go see a GI doctor to get a colonoscopy. I have schelduled that for next week....In the meantime, I am nervous that it could be something else like cancer, which he did mention to me. My symptoms only went on for 2 days...which were....pain in abdomen, urge to have bowel movement and pressure. The second day I notice blood in my stool but was feeling better. My doctor has me on Asacol (anti-inflammatory drug). I feel back to normal now. Could this be cancer???thoughts???
Reply:There is nothing that you can do until you have your colonoscopy. The GI doctor will exam the colon thoroughly and remove anything suspicious. If he finds a polyp he will have it biopsied and than you will go on from there.

So, the answer is . . inconclusive . . until you have this examined and diagnosed there is no way that anyone can tell you what it is. The most common possibility will be hemmoroids, or ulcertaive colistis or crohns disease, but cancer cannot be ruled out yet. Think of it this way . . if it is cancer than the sooner its found the better chances you will have. You're doing everything right.

Best to you.
Reply:It doesnt sound like cancer but please get the colonoscopy, its not as bad as it seems.
Reply:Hi there. :) My dad had similar symptoms three years ago, and it turned out to be something as simple as diverticulitis. He had a colonoscopy when he was well again, and everything came back fine. You sound like you went to the doctor immediately and are getting things under control. While I don't know if the test will come back as cancerous, I mainly wanted to respond to say, try to stay positive and do whatever you can to take your mind off the next week. Just relax, spend some (or a lot lol) of money, go on a mini-vacation, anything to keep you feeling upbeat and not focused on the procedure or its results. And, try not to worry about the colonoscopy itself. My dad was scared beforehand, naturally, but when we went to pick him up, not only was he in his own little world, afterward he said he couldn't even believe it was over! I think it lasts about 45 minutes and I guarantee you'll be in and out like THAT.

If you wanted, you could go to a website like WebMD and check out all the information they have, however, I'd only recommend that if you're comfortable with reading about what something could be (if you're like me, I get paranoid and instantly have the symptoms I'm reading about!)..but, it may give you a better idea of other possibilities besides cancer that you could talk with your doctor about, too.

Anyway, bottom line is with all the advanced technology nowadays, no matter what you're facing, you're going to be in the best care possible!! And if you'd like, feel free to email me if you want to talk (email is in profile).

Good luck, you'll most certainly be in my thoughts! :)
Reply:You only had symptoms for 2 days, instead of jumping the gun and diagnosing yourself, why don't you let the doctor do the test and take it from there. Personally, from your description I would say you are probably fine. Also, you wouldn't feel better once you were on the medicine Asacol, that wouldn't cure the cancer you think you may have.
