Anti-Smoking Commercials...getting old?

100>I do not smoke, i think its dumb, and a bad habit.

At the same time, i feel, if you wanna smoke, and do so where it doesn't bother others, then go for it.

But the Anti smoking commercials are getting old.

Yes we know cigarettes cause cancer. Everyone knows, people stll smoke, get over it.

Do you agree? or disagree? WHY?
Reply:As a smoker it is a good reminder that the habit needs to stop. Although I do agree with you. Beating a dead horse is not considered progress. I think the lawmakers are heading in the right direction with tobacco indusrty lobbyists and with some hope smoking will be a fad of the past in a few generations.
Reply:They continue those commercials for each generation. I like those commercials personally....but maybe those commercials would prevent someone from starting.
Reply:Hell, yes. They are really annoying.
Reply:To each his own. But I guess we have to continue to enlighten the children. Bombard them in school and with the telly to keep lowering the number of smokers. I smoke my children and grandchildren do not.
Reply:Some of them are quite lame %26amp; honestly, ineffective. They rarely give any true reasoning as to why smoking is bad. Kids are shown these emtpy messages so often, that they'll just eventually turn their heads %26amp; ears off to it.

Show someone on a respirator. Show a diseased heart and/or lungs. Show someone breathing out of their neck. Show decaying teeth. Let them hear someone breathing that has emphysema. Let them see someone coughing up blood.

Harsh, but that's reality - and that, is what will be effective.
Reply:One of my old professors does the sound for the "Truth" commercials so I'm biased.

However, most smoking still comes as a result of seeing someone you look up to doing it.

The new thing is to ban smoking in public buildings in cities. Which is a good and a bad step.
