Colon cancer?

113>do i have colon cancer?

I'm 18, almost 19, and have been through a lot in my life. i don't have a family my mum died, my dad turned abusive and have been in care. there's been other stuff which i don't want to mention as well.

I was dignosed as depressed about a year ago, but luckly I'm over that and imediately stopped taking the anti depressants as i felt they made me feel more miserable. However in the past couple of months i have had trouble going to the toilet but i put it down to the depression and stress even though i have been happy.

Recently i have suffered non stop micranes, extreme tiredness, basic signs of enemia and swelling of the stomach and often severe pain. theres also been some bleedin when passing a stool. this has occured over two months.

i confided in a friend who said the symtoms sounded like colon cancer, i don't know if anyone in my family has suffered from this and is it only old people who suffer from this? could anyone please give me advise?
Reply:If yu have stopped anti-depressants, it could be a sign of withdrawl. I decided it was a good idea just stopping cymbalta (i don't know what the equilvalant is in your country) I felt like I was going to die! It felt like my stomach was turning inside out, i was vomiting, constipated, I could not sleep, my mucles were stiff and a whole lot of other things.

You are supposed to wean off them slowly!! You can have serious medical complications if you dont.

About the colon cancer stuff, please, PLEASE, see a doctor. Colon cancer can happen at your age. My cousin was diagnosed this summer and she is your age. Yes 19 year olds can hve colon cancer! when my cousin actually went to the doctor she really wasn't feeling well at all. I mean she was really really sick. They gave her all sorts of tests and they found out her cancer was at stage 4!

Idont mean to scare you, but please get some sort of test.

I hope things work out well for you.
Reply:more likely hemrrhoids, but wouldn't hurt to see a doctor. colon cancer - like any other cancer can happen at any age. as you get older, your likelyhood of getting it increase. stress can increase your likelyhood as well, so you can't rule it out entirely - see a doctor - they can tell you.
Reply:Most likely NOT colon cancer. Especially at your age. I can almost guarantee that your issue is caused by stress and change in diet. If you haven't gone in a while, drink a bottle of Magnesium Citrate to clean out your system (definitely make sure you are within walking distance of your own bathroom for 24 hours). Do some research on the medications that you are taking to see if side effects include constipation. The blood is not coming out IN your stool, it sounds as if you are having to force any movement and are slightly tearing the area. Not to worry, this is normal. See your doctor before discontinuing prescribed medications. You should also request some basic bloodwork to check on your iron count, etc. Good luck!
Reply:Symptoms are relative to colon cancer but I highly doubt that is what's going on. Sounds like you might have hemorroids. Stress, getting unstressed and changes in your diet have probably brought this problem on. You are young and the chances of colon cancer are very slim, it's more common in aging adults. I know gross but try and feel around your rectum for any protruding bumps, kind of like grapes, those would be hemorroids, if you can't feel them on the outside, they could very well be internal. An exam by the dr would tell you what is going on. I would get it checked out as bleeding from any part of your body isn't normal unless it's from a cut on your skin or something like that. It needs to be checked, I know embarrassing but it will help alleviate the stress and then you can take measures to cure it.
Reply:Sounds like constipation. Allot of medications can cause constipation but mostly it's life style.

Frank (obvious) blood in stools are usually hemorrhoids.

When people are constipated and they have to strain to have a bowel movement, they will develop hemorrhoids and these bleed secondary to straining. Technically, we are suppose to have a BM every time we eat, (Meal in, Meal out) most physicians will tell you 1 Large BM a day is sufficient.

There are a number of causes for painful intercourse. If it happens only in certain positions, it could be because those positions hit your cervix. The cervix is very sensitive and does not like the aggressiveness during certain times of the month, or not at all.

For the constipation, increase your water consumption until your urine is clear and has no smell. (Most dialysis patients use the sign of no white film on their tongue as an indication of proper hydration).

You can also start using Fish oil and or Flax seed oil and extra fiber to assist with colon health. The fish and flax oils will not only help with colon health but they also help with increased general health.

There is a test your physician can do to see if you have colon cancer, it's called a colon-oscopy. Patients that have a colon-oscopy are given a colon prep (enemas and other colon cleansers) and then the physician puts a camera (very small flexible wand) in you anus and on up into your colon to check for cancerous growths and polyps. They can also to a CT of your abdomen. But it all starts with a consultation with your MD.

Good luck
Reply:it could be cancer, maby even crohns desease. i wish you the best
Reply:I'm laying here recovering from colon/rectum cancer and it frustrates me the most when people pass off bleeding as hemorrhoids. I took no action for more than a year when I started bleeding because some well intended family loved ones insisted it was likely hemorrhoid and not to worry. I finally got myself into see a doctor and they wished I hadn't wasted so much time trying to self diagnose myself. My surgery would have been far less severe if I had got in there sooner. Bowel problems are a real pain in the A$$
Reply:Sounds like irritable bowel syndrome; a disease which is quite easily managed given the right infomatioon about diet and possible medication. Your doctor will be able to assertain if this is what you have but try not to worry because its fairly harmless, just quite painful sometimes. Best wishes
Reply:I was dx'd with colon cancer at 42.

U definately need to see a doc, but I suspect it may be hemorroids... with all the stress in ur life, sounds like all the symptoms are linked to that...

This is usually a hereditary disease and in someone your age I wouldn't say it was colon cancer...
