Breast Cancer?

515>I am 24 (will be November 9) I have large breasts (DD) (very close to DDD) I started my first menstruation at the age of 9. and well my question is, I have read that women who start (Menstruation) early are more likely to get breast cancer. is this true? should I be worried? I've just found out how to do a BSE (Breast Self-Exam) and will start to. Thanks for any of your information. ( Also if you have had Breast Cancer, What do you go through? Mentally and Physically?)

Thank you so much.

Reply:I'm a breast cancer survivor and I wish I had asked this question early in life. Here's what I learned after the fact.

Breast size doesn't matter. Beginning menstruation early in life CAN be an indication that your risk is greater but the jury is out on that.

FAMILY HISTORY is a big consideration. If your maternal relatives (in particular) have had breast cancer you should ask for genetic testing. The BRACA I AND II screens for the genes that cause breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Here's a link that explains: http://www.labtestsonline.org/understand...

DIET also plays a role in risk for breast cancer. A woman who eats a low fat diet and tries to avoid the hormones sometimes found in certain meats (such as beef) reduce their risk greatly. Here's a link that discusses this and other sources of potentially harmful hormones in foods: http://www.organicconsumers.org/Toxic/ho...

Here is a good site for all sorts of facts about breast cancer. It's very well done and it's sponsored by the American Cancer Society: http://www.getbcfacts.com/index.asp?sour...

Here's another that give general facts in an easy to understand language: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/conten...
Reply:God bless you (and your friend) as well, and thanks for the blessing. Report It

Reply:no i don't believe but keep doing the self exam but by all mean talk to your doctor he can answer most of your uestions.good luck
Reply:This is my personal opinion but I despise the cancer foundations and cancer awareness groups. They amass billions of dollars under the guise of searching for the cure for cancer and the vast majority of their proceeds go toward paying six figure salaries to people and staff that are nothing more than professional fund raisers. I suggest you make your inquiries to this site with an open mind toward a real cure. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Her...
Reply:My sister-in-law who is flat chested, never smoked, doesn't drink alchol, rarely drinks caffine, is a healthy weight, just found out she has breast cancer...so sometimes you can do all the right things %26amp; still......... I believe it has more to do with family history on the mothers side. Just keep doing the self exams %26amp; never hesitate to ask questions.
Reply:i found that when you start thinking heavy thoughts like this;make sure you have your friends around you, because what ever your conclusion it will hurt more if you have no one there for support.
