Breast cancer?

514>i am going thru breast cancer. my daughter is 10. is there a test to see if she carries the gene. as far as i know, breast cancer does not run in the family. what does this mean and what are the chances of my daughter developing breast cancer. thank you.
Reply:dont be afraid....my mom had breast cancer..and we got through it, we had rough times, im her 13 year old daughter..i think i hve ur answer. well ur daughter will check if she has breast cancer half the age u recieved breast cancer. so if you are 36 and hve breast cancer ur daughter will be checked wen she is 13...or if u are 46 and hve breast cancer ur daughter will be 23 wen she is going to be checked...my family didnt really hve anybody who had breast cancer too, i kno how you feel =) people like us have to stick together you and ur daughter will get through it the same way me and my mom did!! good luck!!
Reply:Only 10% of breast cancer is genetic.

My family has a very strong history of breast %26amp; ovarian cancer.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer age 31.

Have since had a gene test %26amp; has been confirmed that I do have the gene.

ensure your health %26amp; or life insurance is in check, before u get test Report It

Reply:Everything I've seen and heard finds only a weak link in genetic transmission. It is entirely possible that your breast cancer was due to environmental factors and not genetics, which would mean that your daughter is not at significant risk.

Good luck to you in your efforts to recover, and I certainly wish you the best!
Reply:There is some evidence that some families have a higher risk of cancer of some types than others. The issue is controversial at best.

I recommend you read Beating Cancer With Nutrition by Pat Quillen, and How to Prevent and Treat Cancer with Natural Medicine by Mike Murray. They are full of good advice on how to reduce your risks and deal with problems if you have the disease. Prevention is easier than treatment by a wide margin.

Good luck and God bless!
Reply:I don't know about the test but I read this article about reducing risk of breast cancer in girls.

Reply:my grandma had cancer my mom had cancer and the doctors told me i have a 90 % chance so i have breast cancer . where mom and grandama had a different kind of cancer. said my daughters would have a 60% chance of having it.breast cancer did not run in my family either...just the cancer cells.
Reply:there is a genetic possibility that your daughter may get breast cancer when she is older, but first you must understand the implications of getting a test to see if she has the gene. what if the test come back positive. would she be willing to have a double mastectomy to prevent her from getting breast cancer. this is the only way she could prevent getting breast cancer if the answer is no then there would be no point in having the test done .instead she would just have to be very vigilant and check her breast often and take the chance that she does not get it. sorry it is a negative answer as such but consideration must be given to the implications of such a drastic action. good luck.
