How does a person get out of depression when they have good reason to be depressed?

327>I mean, with cancer and breathing disorders and other stuff that isn%26#039;t going to go away I can%26#039;t seem to see above this. I am already taking anti-depressants. Should I be considering another anti-depressant? I am getting nothing done in my life!
Reply:Maybe you aren%26#039;t considering ALL of the options. You%26#039;re life isn%26#039;t totally doomed just because of cancer and some breathing problems. Even if you are going to die early because of it, you should have already lived a good life.
Reply:Here%26#039;s a good reason. Because no matter who you are, you have many more reasons to be happy than to be depressed. :)
Reply:The dude that said look on the bright side has obviously never been really, clinically, depressed. I would look into new meds. Did you build a tolerence to the ones you take now or did they never work? Also the thing that always helps me is a change of scenery. If it%26#039;s a vacation to the next town or a move cross country, it always cheers me up to see and do new things. Its kind of like, %26quot;see, there are things you never even knew about left to do, you cant give up yet%26quot;.
Reply:I don%26#039;t know how to answer this any other way than just one day at a time.

I%26#039;ve been depressed for almost an entire decade. Everything I have attempted in recovering and starting a productive life has backfired and left me completely useless to society and suicidal.

I%26#039;ve been on so many medications I just keep making my health worse. I recommend other options. For me, hiring a personal trainer and getting healthy was one of the best things that I chose to do for myself. I have become a personal trainer since and help others to improve their lives. It%26#039;s a perpetual cycle and my self-esteem has improved a lot from being able to be a giver instead of a taker.

Good luck in getting out. My final advice is this - depression wants you to TURN INWARD. I suggest to TURN OUTWARD and be a help to others. It will lift your depression.
Reply:because getting deppressed won%26#039;t solve your problem. in fact psychologically youre making things worse..

so think of it this way your life may seem deppressing but its still up to you how youre going to handle it.. if youre going to let those problems take over your life..

its a fact that everybody%26#039;s got problems some even worse than yours, but strong spirits dont drown in them and thats how they make their mark in this world..

there are a lot of better things to do than being miserable

why dont you start by figuring them out.
Reply:I%26#039;m speaking not from personal experience but from living with a person who had pancreatic cancer. When we found out my husband had cancer it tore us apart. Neither of us had the strength to deal with it or tell our children about it. Once we excepted the fact we had to deal with it, it wasn%26#039;t going away, we decided to do the things that made him the most happiest. On the days I noticed him feeling down (which grew with the progress of the disease) I talked him into doing things that made both of us smile. I think today, the things he put himself through to put a smile on my face made him think less of the pain he was in. There are people in your life that just want to see you smile and I think if you can give them one smile it%26#039;ll make you feel better too.
Reply:The answer, my friend, is to not base your happiness on how you feel.Even though you are going through some really tough times right now, you have got to realize and say to yourself that it is just that. You ARE Going THROUGH This!!! It may be a fact that the doctors say you have cancer and breathing disorders and that you feel depressed, but the word of God, the bible, is TRUTH over your life. God says,%26quot;My son, give attention to my words, listen to my sayings.Do not let them depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.%26quot;-Proverbs 4:20-22 When you stop and think about what all you HAVE been blessed with, how can you not be glad and thank God for what you do have. Seriously, you woke up this morning and had life in your body, you were able to see and to have the present of today. When we can look at the things in our life and praise God in spite of what is going on and praise Him through our storms, that is when miracles start to happen.By the stripes of Jesus Christ you are healed.-Isaiah 53:5 I%26#039;ll be praying for you.
Reply:There are good reasons not to be depressed as well.

May be the drug should be changed or the dosage be modified.
Reply:You have a reason to depressed but drugs is not the answer to get out of it. Don%26#039;t depend on drugs. It is yourself the medicine that will cure you. Think positive, see the bright side of life. Life is beautiful. Think of something that will make you busy, in that case you have no time to think negatively. Stay happy. Think of the happy moments in your life. Visit a friend, a relative you haven%26#039;t seen for a long time. Hope it will help you. Good luck. God Bless.
