Why aren't cigarettes illegal?

366>With all the anti-smoking propaganda circulating, why doesn%26#039;t the govt. do the right thing for a change and make cancer sticks illegal? They can make up for the billions of lost tax dollars by taxing something that NEEDS to be taxed....CHURCHES!!!
Reply:you know as a smoker i am so tired of people griping about us smokers. why don%26#039;t you put a ban on alcohol. drunk drivers kill more people then smoking. just because you don%26#039;t smoke doesn%26#039;t give you the right to judge us and want cigarettes banned. i am respectful of peoples wishes. if they don%26#039;t allow smoking in their house i Will smoke outside. i don%26#039;t smoke in restaurants, i smoke outside and in my truck and in my house. smokers mainly kill them selves by smoking i have yet to see PROOF that a non smoking person got cancer from being around a smoker. I want PROOF. also alcohol causes cancer too. they did a study in England and found that alcohol also causes cancer but are people griping about banning alcohol no.

Reply:for one main reason...it causes 2nd hand smoking and that is worse than smoking and others who dont smoke dont need ot be dieing because of someone elses problem. thats about it.
Reply:Cigarettes aren%26#039;t illegal for the same reason churches aren%26#039;t taxed: the people in charge of the organization are good friends with the people doing the taxing.





Both provide an addictive, potentially deadly product that makes the user feel good in the short run but poisons them in the long run. Both should be illegal.
