One swollen tonsil for over 2 months? Could it be lymphoma?

364>Iv been feeling generally ill over the last 3 months, feeling very fatigued, high fever occasionally, my tonsil on the right is all swollen, but its not painful. Iv been loosing weight for no reason, because i%26#039;ve still been eating. Iv been back and forth to the doctors, they%26#039;ve now ruled out tounsilightious, a viral infection, and glandular fever and annemia due to a blood test. Im very worried it could be lymphoma, but my mother tells me not to be so stupid because im only 16. The doctor%26#039;s put me on some anti biotics, but they dont seem to be working. Am i just being silly or could it be cancer?
Reply:I are not silly. Lymphoma is a form of cancer that affects many young persons. But usually lymphoma is suspected after a few simple blood tests. Persons with lymphoma usually have anemia, changes in white cells count and some other suggestive changes in blood tests. Also, they do not have high fever, rather some fever for a long time.

What you describe sounds like an infection, but I can%26#039;t rule out a lymphoma without knowing the results at all your tests.

I would do like that: I would take the antibiotics for an entire week and if I wouldn%26#039;t see an improving (no fever, less fatigue, and a little decreasing of the tonsil), I would go to the doctor asking him for more blood tests, maybe an biopsy.

Good luck and get healthy.

Reply:Probably not.

My son once had a sore throat and his tonsils remained swollen after the antibiotics. We took him back to the doctor and they put him on steroids for a short time. They went back to normal and has not had a problem since.

There was a medical term for the tonsils still being swollen but it has been a while and I can%26#039;t remember what it was. I was skeptical about them putting him on steroids but it was only for a short time and just long enough to get the tonsils back to normal size.

Ask about this. It would not hurt anyway!
Reply:If you have had blood tests, something would have shown on them if it was cancer... You could have Mono....have you been tested??

You also could have an abcess on your tonsil which might need to be drained. Go back to the dr again, go to another dr. and get a second opinion. Sure sounds like Mono with feeling tired, fever, etc...

I don%26#039;t think you have cancer, and you have to stop worrying about it. When I was your age, I had swollen tonsils all the time. They are there for a reason, to catch all the bacteria and infections so they don%26#039;t travel to another part of your body. Good luck to you
Reply:Your mother needs to wake up, if she cares about you. [and I%26#039;m sure she does] Any itching? Night sweats? Have you had anitbiotics with no effect on swelling? I%26#039;m not trying to insult your mother, honestly. But, you need to stay on top of your doctors until you get some answers. It was that way for me too. I%26#039;m concerned, that%26#039;s all.
